SaRA diagnosing outlook 2016 as needing Modern Authentication

Copper Contributor

Hello,

Hope anyone can offer some help, I've been unable to use the outlook desktop app for weeks now and my IT administrator is at a loss too.

I have on my PC the latest up to date version of office 365, with outlook

As far as I can understand the documenation, this should have "Modern Authentication" enabled by default. Still when i run SaRA it complains about this.

I've basicalliy done everything (including reinstalling office, removing all credentials) but outlook keeps asking for a password, and SaRA says it has fixed the problem but when I run i agian it still says Modern Authentication is not enabled in outlook.

What can I do?

Solution
While this version of Outlook/Office does support modern auth by default, it can still be disabled by Group policy or registry settings on the local device, which I suppose is what SaRA is discovering. Work with your admin to make sure the relevant controls are removed from the device, as SaRA (running under your user account) might not have sufficient permissions to remove them.

Hey Vasil,

Thanks, your message motivated me to dive a little deeper, and aparantely I missed an EnableADAL setting in the registry. No Idea how that came to be disabled, but very happy it is fixed now!
