Outlook.com won't connect

HELP!  Today on my desktop version of O365, my email @outlook.com account was disconnected and wouldn't connect.  The password popup continued to flash like a strobe light, just flashed and flashed and flashed.  I removed office and re installed it but now I cannot connect my @outlook.com account to the desktop version.  Error message is "something went wrong"  Ya think, the question is WHAT went wrong, and how do I fix it. The cloud version is there but the desktop is not.  MSFT support has been AWFUL. If you can get someone to take your ticket they do what they can to get you off the phone.  I don't know if this is a credentials issue or something else.  would love your help.
