New Outlook for Mac combined folders don't all populate after update

I am relatively new to the Mac (decades of Windows) and started using office so I installed Office for MacOS. I use the New Outlook for Mac because:

  1. I like the combined mailbox folders (I have 3 accounts)
  2. Figured the old Outlook for Mac would go away soon

There are many expected features missing but now, after an update earlier this week, there is a real problem:

The combined deleted items and combined Junk won't populate unless you first open the equivalent folder on each of the individual accounts. This is a serious problem.  Any ideas?
