How to search for a word without including the email chain

Copper Contributor

When I search for a specific word, the results will include emails that do not include the word. The email will still show up because it is part of a chain of emails that mentioned the searched for word in the past. I need to be able to see the last email that directly refers the specific word I searched for. Can you help me with this issue?

Hi @ChloeMason,

I am an independent advisor responding to inquiries about Outlook.

If the search term is part of an email that contains multiple replies, the search results will include the entire email. However, here are a few tips for narrowing your search results.

  • Add your search term within quotes, "assign."
    • This will prevent words starting with assign, like an assignment or assigned
  • Use the Advanced feature
    • Now you can identify people, date, date ranges, and more
    • See the images below.
