Duplicate sent items with IMAP accounts AGAIN - Outlook 365

Copper Contributor

Earlier this year, I set up my IMAP account so that I would stop having duplicate copies of sent items.

I did this by going into the IMAP Account Settings and checking the box labelled "Don't save copies of sent items".

On Friday Nov 5, it started again.

Let me emphasize that I made ZERO CHANGES to my Outlook IMAP Account Settings.

On Thursday Nov 4, I sent an an email at 11:25PM PT. Worked as expected (i.e. one copy is saved in my Sent Items).

Friday Nov 5, at 7:50AM PT, the email I sent was duplicated in Sent Items. And all emails sent since that time are now duplicated in my Sent Items.

I'm assuming some kind of update was applied on Thursday Nov 4 rendering the setting in the IMAP Account Settings meaningless.

There's nothing available online about how to fix this now that that setting is meaningless or even to acknowledge that Microsoft forgot to do their regression testing before releasing an update.

What's the fix?

OK, so now that I've sent 3 emails today, I see the duplication in Sent Items has stopped.
Was it my poking around or was something actually fixed?
I guess it doesn't matter as long as it continues to work correctly.
