I have multiple contact lists, from my existing CRM program, from outlook, from LinkedIn, etc.
I need to merge these and tidy up before importing them for use in OCM.
The plan is to use OCM as my main CRM package.
What is the best way to do this? Should I put them all in a csv file and sort it there?
Can I delete all of my existing Outlook contacts and then upload the cleaned list?
Will this damage outlook in any way?
Just want to be sure I do it correctly to start with.

Yes, your understanding is correct. We can import data to Outlook Customer Manager from an CSV file. You can find detailed steps in the article: Import data to Outlook Customer Manager.
Meanwhile, I’d like to let you know that you need to make sure each column is mapped well.
Additionally, if your Outlook contacts are the same as your OCM contacts, we suggest that you delete existing Outlook contacts and then upload the file. This is because OCM contacts will be into Outlook contacts automatically and will cause duplication. You may need to re-delete duplicated contacts .

So, I should do a follows:
compile all of my contacts in a CSV file (from Outlook, CRM software, etc.)
edit contacts in the CSV file (remove duplicates, etc.)
use the headings you suggest in the CSV file
delete all current Outlook contacts
upload the nice, clean contacts CSV file to OCM, not Outlook.
Is that correct?

Yes, the steps you provided is correct. However, as a kindly reminder, I suggest that you import a CSV file including few of contacts to OCM to test whether everything works fine. After that, import all contacts you want.
Additionally, about "delete all current Outlook contacts", if any contact is your Outlook contact while you don't want to add s/he to be a business contact in OCM, such as your families or friends, you don't need to delete them from Outlook Contacts.
Note: Before you delete Outlook contacts and import CSV file, please back up all your contacts information in case of data losing.

So, are the contacts stored in outlook different to those in OCM?
Do the sit in a differnt database?

So, I uploaded all my contacts to outlook from a csv file and that worked fine.
I then followed the instructions here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Outlook-Blog/Best-practices-for-importing-contact-with-Outloo...
In order to upload business contacts to OCM and add some custom fields and also to map the companies (rather than doing this manually).
However this process it taking a very long time.
I intially uploaded 15 contacts to OCM to test it, it worked fine but took 10 mins.
Next I tried 100 contacts, it made it to 50 then failed, even getting to that stage took > 1hour.
I have 2000 contacts to add :(
Is there a quicker way to do this?
I can see the company names in Outlook, why can't I see these in OCM?

Can you share your csv file including fifteen contacts with me via private message? I can test it in my side.
Tip: You can remove your some personal important information for privacy concern.

There doesn't seem to be an option to send a attach a file in the private message.

I have attached an example csv file.

Thanks for your information. I test the file you provided to upload and it just take a few minutes rather than long time as yours. In this situation, given that there are two methods to achieve in this article, I'd like to confirm you uploaded through Outlook or OCM. Can you check another way to see whether there is any improvement?

I uploaded via OCM and this takes a long, long time and ofetn fails.
I first uploaded using Outlook and this is quick but this method does not allow you to add custom fields and it also does not reconise the company name properly. So when I look at contacts in OCM that have been uploaded via Outlook these cannot be sorted by company and my custom fields such as twitter names can't be seen either.
I assume when you say "it just take a few minutes" you are uploading these contacts via Outlook?

Updating custom fields is only supported through OCM-not Outlook. In this situation, we suggest uploading first with Outlook but when update (only on the custom field) using OCM.
Additionally, to aviod network interface, can you please upload after work to check again?

This is by far the most frustrating software I have ever used.
I must have wasted 2 days trying to make it work.
I uploaded all contacts and data needed via outlook, it was quick.
BUT, the contacts in Outlook do not sync with OCM fully.
So, I uploaded the list to Outlook with company names, but these do not appear in OCM.
I then tried to upload the companies via OCM, the list had 800+ companies, it took 3 attempts for OCM to upload them all, and then it failed to complete the task 3 times. So, it uploaded the company names but would not complete the upload. This took 1 hour.
Now, when I a trying to start again, just uploading 500 contacts + compnay name to OCM, when I get to the mapping option it is showing the fields in a foreign language, possibly Finish?
So, now I have to learn a foreign language to upload the contact information to OCM?
There has to be an easier way to do this.

It's been nearly a month now and no update from anyone as yet.
Will OCM be usuable anytime soon or should I look for another program for my contact management? My business really needs this now.
