Starting from a clean OCM setup with no contacts, we've tried to import from a .csv file with contact data that comes from a Dynamics CRM export. I've transformed the .csv file so there's a one-to-one mapping between fields that OCM needs and that CRM produces - there are no redundant columns.
There are 3549 contacts in the .csv file. When importing, CRM sees 3546 contacts (the first inconsistency). Then, after importing all the files - it reports 3456 successful and 90 failed contacts imported.
However, I see only 920 contacts listed under "All Contacts", and the same number again listed in the Contacts tab in Outlook. I also note that some of the imported contacts are marked as "private" and the others marked as "Outlook Customer Manager". The latter can only be found in Outlook by doing a search of "All Contact Items", which makes locating and deleting them pretty difficult!
This is about the fourth or fifth time I've been trying to import into OCM (trying varying things like breaking the list down into 4 files, removing extraneous columns, etc) - and I'm inclined to say at this point that the import process is broken and isn't ready for production use. I've deleted the contacts (and wiped the outlookwebapp IE cache item) each time before attempting a new import session, but have not yet seen any success.
Please check this following article from Welly. Comparing directly importing contacts into OCM, our suggestion is importing contacts into Outlook first, since there are limits that the import file cannot exceed 30 kb in OCM ( I guess this is why you can only get limited contacts when performing it).
Thanks for the link. I've followed the instructions, and the import into Outlook via Contacts was successful.
However, I'm still struggling with the second half of the instructions, where we try and import via Outlook Customer Manager, and update the contacts. At this stage I only have four columns (I've also tried this with a fifth, "dummy" column) - which consists entirely of First Name, Last Name, Email and Company Name. I need this to succeed as all the contacts imported via Outlook are Private - whereas they need to be Shared with Outlook Customer Manager.
Each import file (of which there are 9) are all 30kb or under, and they have all failed (with zero successful imports out of 440-450 contacts per file).
Is there any other suggestion to getting this working? Thanks!
