Hi folks,

I have just started looking at OCM and there is one thing that I don't know if I have misunderstood or that Microsoft has missed.

Having something to manage business contacts for SB are needed, no question.

And OCM might be the perfect solution.

But something is missing when it comes to accessing the contacts when sending mail, calling etc.

Sending a email to a specific customer;

The workflow seem to start with the user have to find the customer in the OCM and then click send email. Not from the normal way in outlook, where you click New Email and then find the contact in the address book.

Issue: the OCM contacts are not visible in the local contacts, GAL or Outlook Address book.

Expected: the OCM contacts would be accessible using GAL or similar shared address book.

Sending a email to a couple of different customers;

As the contacts are not in the address books, I have to copy paste email addresses from OCM into a one new email.

Issue: Copy pasting contact email is far from a good way.

Expected: the OCM contacts would be accessible using GAL or similar shared address book.

Accessing contacts from phone or other device.

OCM has only an iOS app, but there are other devices out-there, right? Am I the last WP user?

But I don't even want to have a separate app for accessing contacts, making a call or similar to a customer etc. I want to use the Contacts and Mail app in my phone.

Issue: I understand that there are maybe technical issues for ex. keeping track of emails and calls and that's maybe why we need a separate app.

Well, then make the app access phone call history or phone email to keep track, don't force us to have to click on a link in a specific app to send a email or make a call.

Browser based.

I can see that OCM is just a browser based plugin in Outlook and its actually using browser (IE?) login session. So if you are login as a account that don't have Office 365 and the OCM plugin enabled - when starting outlook - the OCM button on the ribbon is not visible.

To solve that, logout browser from Microsoft portal or whatever and login with correct account.

The real issue is accessing the OCM contacts from outlook on phone or PC.

If you have any advice, workaround or similar, do tell.

I have looked at:

Flow to trigger on OCM been created to create them in GAL, but there is no triggers for OCM (yet at least)

OCM API to create something that synchronize contacts between OCM and GAL (will continue look at that)

OCM releases; none of the uservoices (https://outlook.uservoice.com/forums/407082) related to this issue seem to picked up by Microsoft.

and there seem to be no updates on the product in general.

Hello Anders,

Thanks for your posting here.

Here are my answer about your scenarios:

1. When we create a new user in OCM, we can search or see this user in the GAL or People > OCM Contacts list, Please see: 20171222-2.png.

20171222-2.png

 2. We can from the Address Book to import the user or click the Email button on the Contact Card, please see:20171222-3.png .

20171222-3.png

 3. Yes, the Outlook Customer Manager mobile app is currently available only for iPhones. It is in preview at this time and cannot yet be downloaded without an invitation. Given this situation, please feedback your requirement to our related team via the link: https://outlook.uservoice.com/forums/407082

 4. However, in Outlook client, we can access the Outlook Customer Manager via click the More option besides Tasks tab, and then choose Add-in, please see: 20171222-4.png.

20171222-4.png

And, on OWA, you can click the OCM icon to access it, please see:20171222-5.png

Please check them on your side.

Hi Rudy,

Thanks for your reply.

Having  OCM Business Contacts in GAL is exactly what I want.

So that sound really good, but I am not able to see it the contact in the GAL when I create a contact in OCM..

This is what I did:

Creating a Contact in OCM:

OCM Capture1.PNG

Setting only First name. (leaving everything else as default)

OCM Capture2.PNG

And Clicked Save.

Looking at the contact:OCM Capture3.PNG

Notes: Business Contact and Shared Contact is set to Yes.

Looking in Address book everywhere (not only GAL), but the Test Contact 1 cannot be found.

Then I went back and set the email address on the contact in OCM and then I can see it in the address book, but as a local contact. (so not in the GAL).

And as your picture 20171222-3.png shows, those are your local contacts (as it says My Contacts just above), so that is a local copy of the OCM contact, not in Global Address List (GAL).

In the address book, select Global Address List, and if you find the contact there, then its in the GAL.

GAL Capture1.PNG

So my questions remain.

As of today, the OCM can not be used to share contacts among devices or people as it creates local copies.

Best Regards
