Considering OCM - Have questions

My department is considering OCM. There is not enough information to answer our questions. They are as follows:

Collaboration

  1. According to Share information in Outlook Customer Manager there is an ability to toggle the sharing of a contact or company, but what exactly does that toggle do?
  2. The same article above mentions that it shares contacts and company information. What about a group of colleagues having the ability to be on the same email string or attached to a meeting within OCM, is that possible or is the email thread and meetings limited to an individual user?
  3. How can different areas that server different functions within a department truly share information?

Contact

OCM can grab contacts from an email, but does OCM integrate with Outlook contacts as well?

Beta or General Availability

Our IT department was told OCM is in beta. Another colleague is confused about that being the case since OCM is available for purchase. What is the case? Is OCM indeed still in beta?

Mobile Functionality

Our IT department was told the mobile feature is read only. It does not have all of the same functionality as the desktop version. For example, if someone is on the road and they want to update their conversation with a client, we are told the mobile feature will not allow for that. Furthermore, I see that the ios for the iPhone has not be updated since May 2018 and the few reviews that have been done are unfavorable. Please give a status on where Microsoft is with this. The mobile feature is the most desired feature from our team. If it is not available as intended, we cannot move forward with OCM.

Hello Pamela,

Welcome to post here. Please see the answer as follows:

Collaboration

  1. According to Share information in Outlook Customer Manager there is an ability to toggle the sharing of a contact or company, but what exactly does that toggle do?

Answer: In OCM, when the person share his own contacts or companies with others in the same organization, those contacts or companies will be listed in your OCM space as well. In this situation, you can access or use those information.

  1. The same article above mentions that it shares contacts and company information. What about a group of colleagues having the ability to be on the same email string or attached to a meeting within OCM, is that possible or is the email thread and meetings limited to an individual user?

Answer: May I know if you mean the shared contact is a distribution list? If so, based on my test, it can be shared with the organization users.

  1. How can different areas that server different functions within a department truly share information?

Answer: Currently, there is no related settings to achieve it. We strongly recommend you feedback this idea here.

Contact

OCM can grab contacts from an email, but does OCM integrate with Outlook contacts as well?

Answer: As per my knowledge, the OCM Contacts can be accessed in Outlook Contacts, but we can't access the Outlook Contacts in OCM Contacts. If it doesn't meet your requirement, we also suggest you feedback it to our related team.

Beta or General Availability

Our IT department was told OCM is in beta. Another colleague is confused about that being the case since OCM is available for purchase. What is the case? Is OCM indeed still in beta?

Answer: There is no related article to describe this case. However, the OCM license is contained in the Office 365 Business Premium Plan, it may be not the beta.

Answer: Yes, you are right. The feature is limited to the read-only view. If possible, please submit a feedback to our related team.

Feel free to let us know if anything is unclear.

Regards,

Rudy

Hi Pamela,

Emails and meetings that are sent by an OCM user will not be visible to other OCM users (unless of course they were addressed).  Collaborating in that fashion can be done with other Office 365/Outlook features, like email-enabled Distribution Groups, Outlook Groups, shared mailboxes or Microsoft Teams.

Note also that all of the Outlook Contacts in your default Contacts folder will be accessible from the OCM Dashboard, by choosing "All Contacts" while in the Contacts page.
