I am trying to move an email to a folder in Outlook to the left of the emails.  Every time I open a new received email and try to move it to a file, it says "cannot perform operation because item has changed".

Hi limast52,

 

This problem could happen due to many factors. You can check the following to see how it goes:

 

  1. In Outlook > File > Options > Mail > Under Conversation Clean up, Uncheck When a reply modifies a message, don't move the original > Restart Outlook (if it is already unchecked, check it Restart Outlook, Uncheck it and Restart Outlook)
  2. If above does not work, uncheck all options under Conversation Clean Up
  3. Account Settings > Open your account > More settings > Under Advanced tab, put INBOX in Root Folder Path. (If your all folders disappear, simply remove INBOX from here)
