UPDATE 5/9/2019
Outlook for Mac has been working closely with the OneNote for Mac team to move to the new OneNote add-in that is based on the Office add-ins framework. Over this quarter, this add-in will roll out to customers in Production! This feature will allow you to send your mails and meetings to OneNote.

With this new add-in rolling out, the existing functionality in Insider Fast, that this article talks about, will be replaced. The new add-in will appear in the ribbon, grouped with the rest of the add-ins that you use today.Screen Shot 2019-05-09 at 4.04.24 PM.png

Thanks!

The Outlook for Mac team

---

With the release of 16.7 (171029), we are finally addressing one of the top requested features in our UserVoice site - Mac users are getting the ability to send their emails and meetings to OneNote! The Send to OneNote button allows you to select any notebook/section across all your accounts, allowing you to archive and access your Outlook content where and when you want it.

We are really excited to release this feature to our loyal fans in Insider Fast, and plan on rolling it out to everyone soon.

Importantly, this feature will be available to Office 365 subscribers only.

How do I use this feature?

  1. When viewing an email or meeting, click on the OneNote icon in the ribbon to get started -

  2. Sign in to OneNote using your work or Microsoft account or select the account you would like to use -

  3. Select the notebook and section you want to send your Outlook item to -

(NOTE: you can also change the account that you would like to send to in this dialog)
  4. And voila! Your item has now been sent to OneNote. You can use the link in this dialog to open it up in OneNote.

Known Issues

  • The sent date may not respect your current time zone
  • Plain text emails may have missing / malformed characters
  • Sending an email or meeting to a password protected section is not currently supported
  • ‘To’ and ‘From’ email addresses in the page header may include a leading ‘<’ character

Problems or Suggestions?

We value your feedback, if you have any issues or bugs to report, please do so by contacting our in-app support (Help > Contact Support)

If you would like to see enhancements and additions to this feature, (or Mac Outlook as a whole), please vote for the idea on our UserVoice site (Help > Suggest a Feature)

If you click Help->Contact Support and enter the error message, you will learn the following.  Basically, MS knows it's broken and a fix is coming in Q4.

Cannot send meeting notes to OneNote, "Your meeting couldn't be sent"

Late last year we released support for sending emails and meetings to OneNote in Insiders Fast. This feature was very well received and since then, the OneNote team along with the Outlook team has iterated on feedback and have come to a conclusion that a newer version is needed in order to better support this feature across all versions of Outlook. In its place, the OneNote team will release a new version of this functionality based on the Office add-in infrastructure. This new version is currently in the last stages of testing and is scheduled to roll out to everyone in Q4 2018.

Due to the new version being rolled out, the existing version will no longer be supported and will be removed in the near future. Thank you for your patience.

Is there any update on the status of this feature? I really miss it

Copper Contributor

Same error .. only for calendar entries .... email to OneNote from Outlook on mac works just fine.

Copper Contributor

Like others, I am receiving Error code: 10001 when attempting to send a Meeting to OneNote.

Sending emails works as expected, I am only having the issue when sending meetings.

Copper Contributor

I really want this feature but when I initially tried Office Insider Fast this worked great but it caused me other issues so I rolled back to "Office Insider Slow" which has been fantastically stable for me.  However, I had a different expectation around slow vs. fast as I never imagined it would take a year.  Any chance this can be promoted soon?

Copper Contributor

Nope, still not working...

This is a great feature, but it recently stopped working for me. I reached out to the Outlook support team, but they couldn't help me, and they suggested I contact OneNote support, but I couldn't find any such team. I'm a little disappointed since I had just started getting used to relying on this feature in my usual work flow, and now I've had to change my behavior again. I just a vague error message about the note not being sent and a suggestion that I try again later.

I was happy to see more feature parity between the Mac and Windows versions of the various office applications, but the feature parity is really only valuable if the features actual work as expected. :\

Copper Contributor

I am using 16.20 and it will only work with emails for me. Sending meetings to OneNote still receives the error below.

Please see my message higher up in this thread.  This is a known issue with a fix scheduled for this quarter.

Copper Contributor

I'm running version 16.19 Outlook for Mac, but there is no OneNote for Mac button in the ribbon for either messages or meetings.  Is there something that needs to be turned on from the back end or with our companies IT department?Screen Shot 2018-11-27 at 11.54.16 AM.png

Hi there

I have running Fast insider version 16.20 (181125). The send to OneNote tool has disappeared lately! Any thing I am missing? ThanksOneNote.png

Copper Contributor

I honestly think they finally just gave up. I know that the OneNote on my Outlook never worked on the meeting notes side (email send was fine), and then my Outlook started crashing. I had to uninstall the Outlook, reinstall without the OneNote add in to get Outlook to work in meetings. Sigh, I'm very disappointed.

Back in November I reached out to support because the feature is not working and below is their response: "Late last year we released support for sending emails and meetings to OneNote in Insiders Fast. Copper Contributor

Jeff - Did the OneNote team released the new version of this functionality based on the Office add-in infrastructure? With version 16.21 build 181225 I'm still experimenting the error.

Copper Contributor

I looked this morning and I did not see any !4 2018 updates for the OneNote in Outlook MAC

Copper Contributor

I downloaded the new Office Insider Fast update this morning (Version 16.22, 190101) and it looks like this feature is not yet active.  I get the error below when I try to send Outlook meetings to OneNote.

Update - This feature did work for me when sending an email from Outlook to OneNote.

Jeff

Your meeting couldn't be sent

We're sorry.  Please try again later. (Error code: 10001)

Copper Contributor

Team - I downloaded the Office Insider Fast update Version 16.22, 190107 and it's working.

Copper Contributor

alfmena can you send me the link to that update, I can't seem to find it.

Copper Contributor

Sending email to OneNote works, sending Meeting to OneNote is the issue; this does not work and there have been no updates. We were told there would be a fix by Q4 2018, but no progress to date.

Copper Contributor

Hi All,

I just updated to the same version as @alfmena.  Unfortunately it does not work for meetings, just emails.  From what support told me back in November, they will remove the option from Outlook and turn it into an Outlook Add-in.

Jeff

Same error as before:

Copper Contributor

Jeff - Sorry for the misunderstanding. I got confused, I used a meeting request send from Google Calendar.  Is there a reason why with Google calendar works?

Copper Contributor

Still not working for me either.

Running 16.16.5

Copper Contributor

This functionality doesn't work. It did, beautifully well, but about 10 months ago it stopped working.

After repeated support inquiries I was informed that this functionality was removed and is not being worked on any longer, and that it may be revisited in the future and that I should vote on this if is a feature I would like to see added!?! I asked why the buttons for "send to OneNote" remained Outlook calendar entries and never received a response.

If it is dead, remove it.  It if is being considered for some future fix, remove it and add the buttons back in when it is working so we all know it has been addressed. Leaving the popup menu links on calendar entries with this functionality serves no meaningful purpose,

Copper Contributor
I believe this is the suggestion to vote on. It has 5400+ votes on it so far. https://outlook.uservoice.com/forums/293343-outlook-for-mac/suggestions/8083083-integrate-outlook-wi...
Copper Contributor

It's March 2019 and they still haven't fixed it.  I check with every Insider Fast update.  It was working and then it stopped working -- no excuse.  FYI -- the send to OneNote feature works for emails.

Copper Contributor

This feature has made it to the Top 10 on User Voice, which hopefully gets it some priority; especially since half of the top 10 are already COMPLETE. If you haven't voted for this yet, vote here: https://outlook.uservoice.com/forums/293343-outlook-for-mac/suggestions/8083083-integrate-outlook-wi...

Guys. Not sure if this has been discussed but I have a workaround. If you include an attachment in your calendar event, you can send it to OneNote with no errors. Give it a try. (I am using Outlook and OneNote V 16.24.)

Copper Contributor

That would be great, if I still had the Send to OneNote button.

After one of my updates, it just went away and I can't figure out how to get it back.

Copper Contributor

It's EXTREMELY frustrating that this functionality was removed in the latest Insider Fast release, leaving those of us that use it constantly with no capability at all, pending the launch of the Add-On flavor.

Copper Contributor

I got a notice that Outlook Mac Integration with OneNote was COMPLETED. Is IS NOT COMPLETED. There is no integration of OneNote tasks with Outlook tasks. This is critical to OneNote integration. Please do not consider this completed - if you review the requests, TASK integration is key feature requested.

Copper Contributor

I am on 'Office Insider Fast' and do not see the add-in yet. Eager to try it out if it works with Okta SSO and OneNote in Teams. When we will start seeing it?

Copper Contributor

This thread started in 2017. It is now almost mid 2019, when will this be done? Insider Fast does nothing even if I reboot.

Copper Contributor

insider fast here, still don't have the send to OneNote nor i can find the addin on the addin shop... how do i enable it?

And i suggest as other have said too, the integration outlook OneNote is not completed until you add task sync

Copper Contributor

I am on the fast update track but do not see the add-in available.  How can I get access to this feature or be notified when the add-in is available?

Copper Contributor

I just appeared for me today, with the most recent Insider Fast update to Outlook for Mac--16.27 (19061000).  So far it seems to work far better for notebooks that cross OneDrive tenants than the previous implementation did.

Copper Contributor

It also just appeared for me, but only for email.  I tried it out and it works great.

The icon disappears when I switch to my calendar.  Not sure if I am missing a setting, but it looks like they still have to turn it on for calendar appointments.

Copper Contributor

Yes! THANK YOU! A lot of happy customers over here :)

Copper Contributor

I loaded the latest update and even restarted my computer but I still do not have the ability to send items to OneNote from Outlook.

Is there something special I need to do to activate the Icon on the toll bar?

Copper Contributor

@Scott Meade There was nothing that I did to make it show up, it just appeared after the last update.  It only works for email and not appointments for me.

FYI - I did check the Add-ins and it shows up as a custom add-in.

Copper Contributor
I just received the latest Fast update this morning to Outlook and I have the Send to OneNote in appointments and emails. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Copper Contributor

Funny thing is I can open appointments created by someone else in OneNote but not ones I have created. Still some bugs to work out.

Copper Contributor

Same here...

Now that the Icon has shown up, I can only send meetings to OneNote that I did not create. When I open my meetings the Icon is not there, meetings from others have the Icon when opened.Meeting I createdMeeting I createdMeeting sent to meMeeting sent to me

Copper Contributor

@Scott Meade , @kkline , same with me: there seems to be no way to see the "Send to OneNote" icon for meetings organized by me.

Copper Contributor

Since 'Send to OneNote' was not working with appointments, I decided to delete the add-in and then add it in again.  This was a mistake.  It is a custom add-in and it does not show up when you search add-ins.  So now I do not have the 'Send to OneNote' at all.  Hopefully it comes back with the next update.

Copper Contributor

@nfr4nch1 @Scott Meade With the latest Insider Fast update for Outlook and OneNote it appears the functionality to send ANY appointment to OneNote has been lost. What a complete mess...one would think a company like Microsoft would have a little more oversight with software upgrades. I would expect this sort of lack of continuity with a startup, not Microsoft.

Copper Contributor

I have the latest update and I still only have the icon when it is a meeting I did not create.

Copper Contributor

In the update I read that "Over this quarter, this add-in will roll out to customers in Production!"...when does the quarter end?  I am anxiously awaiting this update!

Copper Contributor

I just loaded the latest update this morning and I still cannot send meetings to OneNote that I have created.

 Screen Shot 2019-06-18 at 10.01.28 AM.png

Copper Contributor

I installed the production release on my Mac this week and finally have the option to send to OneNote.  Finally.  I hope it stays this time.

Well done M$!
