UPDATE 5/9/2019
Outlook for Mac has been working closely with the OneNote for Mac team to move to the new OneNote add-in that is based on the Office add-ins framework. Over this quarter, this add-in will roll out to customers in Production! This feature will allow you to send your mails and meetings to OneNote.

With this new add-in rolling out, the existing functionality in Insider Fast, that this article talks about, will be replaced. The new add-in will appear in the ribbon, grouped with the rest of the add-ins that you use today.Screen Shot 2019-05-09 at 4.04.24 PM.png

Thanks!

The Outlook for Mac team

---

With the release of 16.7 (171029), we are finally addressing one of the top requested features in our UserVoice site - Mac users are getting the ability to send their emails and meetings to OneNote! The Send to OneNote button allows you to select any notebook/section across all your accounts, allowing you to archive and access your Outlook content where and when you want it.

We are really excited to release this feature to our loyal fans in Insider Fast, and plan on rolling it out to everyone soon.

Importantly, this feature will be available to Office 365 subscribers only.

How do I use this feature?

  1. When viewing an email or meeting, click on the OneNote icon in the ribbon to get started -

    1.2.png
    1.3.png

  2. Sign in to OneNote using your work or Microsoft account or select the account you would like to use -

  3. Select the notebook and section you want to send your Outlook item to -
    3.1.png
(NOTE: you can also change the account that you would like to send to in this dialog)
  4. And voila! Your item has now been sent to OneNote. You can use the link in this dialog to open it up in OneNote.

Known Issues

  • The sent date may not respect your current time zone
  • Plain text emails may have missing / malformed characters
  • Sending an email or meeting to a password protected section is not currently supported
  • ‘To’ and ‘From’ email addresses in the page header may include a leading ‘<’ character

Problems or Suggestions?

We value your feedback, if you have any issues or bugs to report, please do so by contacting our in-app support (Help > Contact Support)

If you would like to see enhancements and additions to this feature, (or Mac Outlook as a whole), please vote for the idea on our UserVoice site (Help > Suggest a Feature)

Great job guys - working well!

Copper Contributor

Excellent!

Brass Contributor

I'm a 365 subscriber, and I just switched to the fast track release specifically for this feature, but I'm not seeing the new button.  Is there anything special I need to do to enable it?

Thanks

Copper Contributor

I have the same issue of not seeing the new OneNote button.  I subscribe to Office 365 Home.

---> now I see it after rebooting, half way along the Home ribbon.  Looks good!

Brass Contributor

I still don't see it even after rebooting.  Could it be conflicting with either WebEx integration or the Wunderlist addon?

Copper Contributor

I see the feature, but when I want to send a meeting to OneNote to create meeting notes I always get the error "Your meeting couldn't be sent. One or more of the meetings you selected might be damaged. Try again with a different selection."

Done that, tried to create meetings notes from meetings I created as well as meetings sent from others. Does not work at all. I do not get any more information on the error.

OneNote is running, I am logged in and the notebooks are opened.

Brass Contributor

All of a sudden, the new OneNote button is showing up for me in Outlook.  However, when I press it to send an email to OneNote I get the error: "Your email couldn't be sent.  We're sorry.  Please try again later."  I am not prompted for an account or a notebook.

@Benjamin Matten & @Peter von Kaenel, can you please open a ticket? When Outlook is open, please go to Help > Contact Support. We can better help you there.

Thanks!

i'm using Outlook for Mac and downloaded the latest build, 16.8 (171101).  However, once downloaded and installed thru the Auto Updater, I'm still using the older version.  What am i missing here on how to now update to 16.8 (171101).   Thanks in advance for the insight...

This is great news.  However, seeing the same problem as Benjamin, so will open a ticket.

Am I missing something here? This is supposed to add functionality to send your Meeting Notes to OneNote, which is great, but according to my understanding the MacOS version of Outlook doesn't even have the Meeting Notes feature. What is the use case for this?

Brass Contributor

It should be available for sending both meetings and email to OneNote.  The part I'm having problems with is the second - I have no need to send meeting notes to OneNote.

looking to know when this is releasing to the public.  I am running Version Build 15.40 for Office365 on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.1.  Updater states I'm current.  Please advise.

Copper Contributor

Im a 365 subscriber, am logged into my account, have installed version 16.8 (171205)

I cannot get the button to appear - I've rebooted and tried all the suggestions - nothing.

Would love to be able to use this feature.

I've reported this using the contact support button but have not received a response.

Copper Contributor

I'm with Geoff. How do I get this feature when I've got v.16.8?

Thanks!

Copper Contributor

Working for me on the latest build. Was an issue for many preview builds and after submitting many log reports it’s finally fixed.

Copper Contributor

Thx Graham, so i'll keep sending log reports ;) hoping that it will be fixed.

I can say that the MSFT support is fast and quick responding.

Copper Contributor

I am using 16.10 and no longer have the onenote button at all. I did see it for a short time awhile ago (not sure what version it went away in)

Copper Contributor

Same on my side: No Button on a Ribbon

Outlook: 16.10 (180210)

OneNote: 16.10 (180210)

Maybe the sequence of installation matters?

please assist!

Copper Contributor

Same here.  I used to see the button but in the latest version 16.11 it's gone.

Working here fine on Outlook 16.11 (180220) build.

Copper Contributor

I have the same Error Code 10013 problem. Any news/tips/hints on that? Have tried the log out/in mentioned above to no avail.

For people not seeing the Send to OneNote button: Are you sure that you are on the Office Insider *Fast*? The button didn't appear to me on Insider Slow builds.

Copper Contributor

I also don't see the One Note icon on the ribbon and I'm running 16.12 (180308) from the Office Insider (Fast) program.  It's frustrating because this is one of the requested features that I voted for and am really looking forward to.  Is there some kind of A/B test that only a subset of users are receiving the feature, even if we've signed up for Insider (Fast)?

Copper Contributor

I also don't see the One Note icon on the ribbon and I'm running 16.12 (180318) from the Office Insider (Fast) program. It was there last week and this week its gone?  I've taken the time to send logs and chat the issue with Narcis L from Outlook for Mac support and have yet to get an answer on how to Restore the button.  Graham Walsh,  you shared that yours work fine.  Any special tips.

Copper Contributor

Hey, I'm office 365 on mac. Installed Outlook for MAC. But the share to OneNote icon is not there. What's the issue here? Thanks.

Too bad it still did not work for me :(

Sorry for the late reply Curtis. There was nothing special i needed to do. Just running the fast insider builds. I’m also on Mac OS beta but that shouldn’t make a difference I would have though.

Copper Contributor

@Curtis Gilbert  It works! Thank you!

Copper Contributor

Hi Running 16.11 and no onenote button......suggestions?

Copper Contributor

Hi,

it's running more or less. I can send objects to One Note but on ly to the regarding main page and not to sub pages. That works in Outlook for Windows.

I think there is some work to do and room for improvement.

Copper Contributor

I'm on 16.11 (180311) and not seeing the button...

Copper Contributor

Hi all,

I get the following error when trying to add a new location to the 'Choose a location' list. Please help!

OneNote.png

Copper Contributor

This is great - but absolutely no integration with tasks - onenote for mac doesn't even allow tasks to be sorted or searched ( kinda pointless to have them if you cant search for them )  - they should integrate with outlook and/or planner - otherwise why have them!

Copper Contributor

Don't seem to get the OneNote button even if I have Outlook 16.14 (180507) fast update. Also ran the FlightReset with no success.

Contacted the support. Let's see what happens...

Copper Contributor

Talk about feeling like a second-class citizen. How an MS claim Office 365 has feature parity when we're missing a key feature like this for so long? It's even worse if the feature comes and goes between releases. I'm trying to make a case for my company to move more of the staff to the Mac and we're dealing with things like this? 75% of our staff push meeting notes to OneNote and we can't do that from Outlook on the Mac?

This is a pain point for me on a personal level and an example of MS dropping the ball on the Mac release.  As these comments prove, this has been a long-standing issue.  And FWIW, the FlightReset didn't fix the problem in my case.

Copper Contributor

Hi - we also do not see this important button.

Is there by today any good solution to it ?

JK

Copper Contributor

I'm on build 16.16 and do not have the Send to OneNote button. Just switched to a Mac and used this feature all the time on a Windows machine.

Please update the post for full release date for office 365 users on mac

Copper Contributor

Microsoft claimed the Mac version of the Office suite now had feature parity with the Windows version. How can they make that claim when features like this are missing? There are other problems with the janky way meeting invites are accepted. The terminology on the acceptance options are entirely different for reasons that make not sense. The app doesn't show meeting conflicts with reliability. Sometimes it shows a preview of the calendar along with the meeting invite, other times it doesn't.  The Mac continues to be a second class citizen.

Copper Contributor
I am also on 16.16 version for both OneNote and Outlook and the integration icon is not available for me. Please assist.
Copper Contributor

I tried the FlightReset tool referenced above, but that didn't appear to work. I ended up selecting "Office Insider Fast" under "Join the Office Insider program" in Help -> Check for Updates and updated. That did the trick after restarting Outlook. I now have the OneNote button.

on insider fast updates... sending meetings notes from calendar meetings receives this error. Sending emails to Onenote works just fine. Submitted a ticket to Microsoft Premiere support, and they told me they can't help me because they don't support insider builds. Who does support it? why is it that we have to be on insider builds to have the onenote button on Mac?

Copper Contributor

I am going through the Office Insider Fast method and now have the OneNote icon in Outlook. Sending emails to OneNotes works great, thanks a bunch! However, I am also getting the "Your meeting couldn't be sent!" error. Is there a workaround or fix that you are aware of? (MAC)

Copper Contributor

We are on Outlook version 16.17 and still no "Meeting" tab or "OneNote" icon. What gives?

Copper Contributor

I am receiving the same error 10001 when invoking the OneNote button to notes from the Calendar but it works when sending from email?

Copper Contributor

Likewise, same error when trying to create a OneNote page from a calendar entry:
