Outlook on the web users can now interact with Yammer conversations, polls, questions and praise without leaving their Outlook inbox. We announced this feature at Microsoft Ignite 2019, and it is now rolled out to 100% of enterprise tenants. It will be coming to desktop and mobile apps next quarter with releases for Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, and Outlook for iOS and Android.

Engage with conversations from Outlook on the web

Outlook helps you get things done without switching apps. Now, users can engage with Yammer conversations in Outlook so that you can get your tasks done and stay connected without having to leave Outlook. See the full Yammer thread and reply, like, vote, attach files, share gifs and even watch videos – right from your inbox.

This experience is now on by default for web users and works with all Yammer emails in Outlook on the web, and leverages the new Yammer design and publisher. Paired with the new ability to announce polls, questions, and praise it gives communicators and community owners a seamless way to share news and knowledge at scale, collect feedback, and connect across their organization.

This is the first chance to engage with the new Yammer, enjoy the new design, and take advantage of quickly engaging in a Yammer conversation without leaving Outlook.

We understand that sometimes change takes a little longer to get used to. If you would like to see the classic Yammer emails, you can turn off this update on a per-email basis by selecting “Hide Yammer Conversation” at the bottom of the email.

In Outlook we always aim to help you get things done faster, and Yammer is helping us achieve that. As always, we love hearing from you. If you have any feedback please let us know through our Yammer UserVoice, or learn more about how we are continuing to shape the future of Yammer.

Hi community, I wonder how this will affect the Yammer analytics: will the read in Outlook be considered as a unique one and added to the general stats?

Copper Contributor

Interesting battle between lets do everything without leaving email/outlook and lets drop email as much as possible and move to Teams.

This creates a confusing message

Still haven't seen this in Outlook on the Web yet.  Is this still rolling out @Gabo ?

Microsoft

@AlexH980 - it should be on by default once it hits your tenant. It's 100% rolled out so you should see it.

Microsoft

@Natalia Nemkovich -

Soon, we will mark stuff read in outlook as read in Yammer inbox as well. And also increase the seen count for that conversation in Yammer. Hold tight!

I still don't see it in Outlook on the Web.  I do have the New Yammer for few days, so it should be available by default but Not. It should be available under the Conversation History on the left rail. Not sure there is any policy or something needs to be turned on but according to the notes above that's not the case. ... fyi - @Gabo@Michael Holste

I know that this might be not the most appropriate thread, but I'd like to ask whether there are plans to move the 'Related groups' section in new Yammer to a more visible place? In my network this section works great for attracting new members and giving a lazy promo for groups, so i wouldn't like  my users to be deprived of such a chance.

Brass Contributor

@Natalia NemkovichI agree. It is now hidden to the point almost no where to be found.  It needs to be to a place where users can see in ease and choose to join. My hunch a lot things will be updated when it goes to GA..

Iron Contributor

@MonirKcan't agree more! It's also kinda confusing not being able to bookmark & translate conversations (or may be it's hidden too)...

Brass Contributor

Still don't see it in Outlook on the Web. and it has been over a week or so I have this New Yammer...

Hi @Michael Holste , I've received a monthly analytics and I find it very confusing, hope you will help me find answers. Right after the interactive emails introduction in my company, we released an All Company announcement and it got 25k+ 'seen by's. That means it counted the unique views=people active, but when I turn to the data from 0365, we have way less numbers. Could you please advise on that?

Microsoft

@Michael Holste or @Ravin Sachdeva  might be able to answer some of those questions.

Microsoft

@MonirK - can you please dm me a screenshot of your Yammer notification settings page?

Microsoft

@Natalia Nemkovich - you're correct in pointing out that once a user views an announcement in Outlook, it will be marked as seen for them and hence the seen by count increases by 1 for the announcement. Would it be possible for you to share the "Monthly analytics" report you're referring to here? Is it sent by Yammer or an O365 level report? If you can dm me a screenshot of the report that will be super helpful. Thanks!

Copper Contributor

I'm wondering how you created these mails on a technical level? They're awesome and I could see this being used elsewhere - if it's something organizations can create themselves.

Brass Contributor

Hi @Ravin Sachdeva

I just sent you a screenshot as requested. Sorry, it took some time to get back.   Thanks

I recently switched to the new yammer view, and since then, when I receive email (to my outlook inbox) notifications about yammer posts, the email arrives in my inbox and constantly glitches/twitches in my inbox viewing screen, appears, disappears and resets. Anyone else having this issue? Any advice on how to resolve? Others in my organization are experiencing same thing.

Microsoft

hi @KatharineD - any chance you can send me a quick video of the glitches you're seeing? You can send it via private message. Also, are you using the Outlook Windows client or Mac?

Copper Contributor

I am a Yammer Network Admin for our organization and do not see the "Yammer Emails" folder in Outlook Online.  Also haven't been able to get any Yammer posts to show up in my inbox.  Is there documentation on how to set up the integration? Or can someone advise?  Thank You.

Copper Contributor

@Jeff MacPhail I cannot find the Yammer  E-mails folder in my Outlook for web either. Someone that can point me in the right directions? Is there a setting to be done by the Admin or IT dept. ?  I'm the Admin for Yammer in my organization, by the way.

Like Mikkel Pedersen Kaas, I would also like to know more about how these interactive emails have been implemented. I can already imagine the expectation of our marketing and designers to have interactivity in _all_ emails once they discover these. Obviously, I realize this is probably only an Outlook + Yammer combination thing and will not be working in other email clients. But since a lot of people are using Outlook, some technical background information on how this interactivity works would be cool.

I have now tried to reply using desktop Outlook (Professional Plus 2016) to reply to a conversation, via the email notification of an addition to the conversation.

Both times I tried this, I got an HTTP 500 error ... with a pretty picture which did nothing to soften the failure :^(

Any ideas what's going wrong?

Microsoft

@Guys75 - would it possible for you to share your email address in a private message to me? We would need some additional details to investigate the issue. Thanks.

Iron Contributor

Hi! My network has recently come across the following: after issuing an All Company announcement, some users received an old (i.e. not interactive) Outlook notifications, others didn't receive anything at all. Any ideas what could go wrong? It's important for us to understand it, as All Company announcements with interactive notifications have become a powerful tool for our leadership

How does Yammer analytics calculate views (seen by) for interactions from Yammer posts in Outlook? I see the last commentary above is "you're correct in pointing out that once a user views an announcement in Outlook, it will be marked as seen for them and hence the seen by count increases by 1 for the announcement. Would it be possible for you to share the "Monthly analytics" report you're referring to here? Is it sent by Yammer or an O365 level report?"

Does this mean it counts the seen by for each user only once if they see it in native Yammer (on Yammer or via a Yammer feed) or in Outlook?

Thanks.
