OneNote UWP - Very Slow Sync - Realtime Collaberation Impossible

Steel Contributor

We're a consulting firm with employees that work in 5-10 OneNote notebooks on average daily. We've been attempting to adopt the OneNote UWP as Microsoft has stopped developing for OneNote 2016. Employees are animate that sync is slower in the UWP version. Where a user in 2016 can see near realtime updates a user sitting next to them using the UWP app can wait minutes and sometimes even hours to see the same changes replicate to their notebook. Is near realtime sync ever coming to the UWP app?

Another complaint is that the UWP doesn't seem to have any mechanism for seeing when the notebook was last synced. The 2016 version had a whole 'sync status' page you could open. Sure, there's the little cloud in the top right of every UWP page, but it always says 'synced' even when the open notebook isn't. The only other option seems to right click the notebook and select 'sync now' but users shouldn't have to do this every time they open their notebook - it should just be synced.

Are there any roadmap items for improving the performance here? This is a program used heavily in enterprise environments and it feels like it's been replaced with consumer grade software. I'm not saying 'bring back 2016' - we know it's still an option to use - but we expect the product you're actively supporting (and including in Office 2019/365 installs) to include features that allow near-realtime collaboration, and tools to troubleshoot it when it isn't working right.

Happy to work with you more on this - please DM me if you have any active beta/alpha groups.
