Avoid sync of DT/Docs/Pics when adding new account

Is there a way, when adding a new account to OneDrive, of forcing it NOT to sync Desktop, Documents & Pictures? I know I can use 'Choose folders' once things have synced, but I don't want it even to start. When you add the new account and it starts to sync, it won't let you stop the sync until it's finished. My Desktop/Documents/Pictures folders have a lot of data and I have a very slow upstream Internet connection.
