Silent Known Folder Move - what if it can't move?

Steel Contributor

Howdy,

I know that there is the Silent and the Prompt version of Known Folder Move options in Group Policy.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/redirect-known-folders

If I only turn on the Silent version, what happens if someone has a onenote file or something else that would prevent the folder from moving?  Do they get any sort of warning or error message or anything like that or does it just not do anything?

We are thinking about turning on the Silent option first to hit everyone that doesn't have a conflict, and then turn on the prompt version to see who we have to work on manually.

Thanks.

Hi @Mike Boehm

As part of some recent tests with KFM I captured some (expected) error scenarios.

For example, even with the Silently move Windows known folders to OneDrive setting enabled, a test user gets this error below when Folder Redirection is still in place, with the Desktop folder nested within the same location as Documents.

I recommend that you conduct your own tests to replicate user experience for your environment and config.
