OneDrive Files on Demand for Mac

Silver Contributor

Forgive me if it has been posted before, I did look around but didn't see anything, but is there going to be a OneDrive Files on Demand for Mac users?

That's useful in the sense of avoiding accidental deletions thanks!

However it does reduce the functionality severely as people can't easily upload files to library's without the path being available/visible on their Finder?
This is what files restore is for assuming your drive is on OneDrive. But at same time cause it’s shared you probabalu had other edits happen before someone noticed.

Come on Microsoft. Give us an update on this.... unless its included in Feature ID: 23759 of the 365 roadmap, then I can't see any progress or plans.

Its a game changer for users and IT Teams.

Without it data governance for Mac users become needlessly more complicated than it might be.

We'll need this feature, if it's should called a feature, it's a must have. Please.

It’s in development. I wouldn’t expect anything until ignite as far as announcements

Any update on when the Mac users would get the 'Files on Demand' option in their One Drive for Business?

Much needed feature! Can't wait!! Thanks

Sam

Nothing has been announced, I'm sure Microsoft appreciate how much people would want it, but it might also require Apple to provide additional hooks in OSX to make it work. I would look to see if anything on this gets announced at Ignite conference in September.

Work around for Files On Demand for MAC

Hope this helps out

I created this guide I hope it helps

I use odrive solution. https://www.odrive.com/

@Steven Collier Maybe they can just use the same hooks Google is using? :)

... or Dropbox...

I think you misread - it's $49 for 1 user NOT $149

Hello,
Any Update to this topic from Microsoft?
When the OneDrive or Sharepoint is quite large, permanent syncing is really tedious.
Files on Demand is really mandatory also on Mac...

Many Thanks

You won't hear anything till Ignite if anything. We will know more then, if you don't hear anything at Ignite then don't expect it for a long time :P.
Great! Now how about that differential sync? :)

In seriousness, hopefully it will come to operating systems besudes Mojave, which is releasing today.

@Deleted, yeah!!  It's about time Microsoft did this!

Thanks for posting that Christopher. Looks like MS are finally delivering on this.

Will have our guys download the preview this week. If it works then its a game changer in simplifying the infrastructure we need for our small number MAC users and the way they can work alongside the wider business.

It seems to work quite well!  Hooray!

I just tried testing this on another Mac, a MacBook that had a small SSD drive and it isn't working.  I have 25GB in my OneDrive for Business and it shows cloud icons for all files and folders however, it has already eaten up 12GB on my MacBook and if I look at other folder, it keeps downloading even though it shows that it isn't so I can't "free up any files" as it looks like they are all in the cloud except that they aren't.  This Files on Demand OneDrive client is not ready at all.  :(
