Get direct download link of a file in OneDrive for Business

Brass Contributor

I use "Get Link" button and it gives me a link (like below) which will open the file online.  How can I get a link for direct file download?  Thanks.

Adding  &download=1 at the end works great for Business accounts but it doesn't work for Personal Accounts. Is there another way to make it downloadable for Personal Accounts?

OneDrive Direct File Download URL Maker is a tool that will
convert the Microsoft OneDrive embedded code into a direct downloadable link.
The link can be shared with anyone, they don't have to have a  Microsoft account.
I discovered and created this tool back in 2004.

How this Tool works:-

  1. Just Copy the Embedded code from your OneDrive. An example
    <iframe src="https://onedrive.live.com/embed?cid=8F99649728BEB2F3&resid=8F99649728BEB2F3%211010&authkey=AFo8ZQ_-q..." width="98" height="120" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
  2. Paste the copied link into ###OneDrive Direct File Download URL Maker### to convert
  3. Click on Get Download Link button
  4. Then the Direct Download link will appear in the box bellow, so click on the copy button.

MVP - thanks for this simple solution that seems to elude most replies, including Microsoft's, on similar posts!

That worked like a charm to me, thanks a lot mate

Doesn't work. It asks for sign-in

@sabarishn right click on the file and copy the link then open a private tab on your browser then paste and go afte that click on download then imediately cancel the download and go to the downloads from the browser menu then you will see a link on below of your file name copy it and boom this is your direct link

THANK YOU! It worked for me like a charm. For those who are looking for a solution to get a direct link of onedrive to work with Qlikview (like me), this solution was the light at the end of the tunnel ‌‌.

Thank you very much for your solution, it was simple and smart! And still works in 2021!

You're welcome :p.

Well... im back here again to ask something else about this direct link. I came to this forum to know how to get a direct link to files hosted at onedrive for business (.xlsx files in my case) as a part
of a solution to automatically load this files into an BI application. But other colegues warned me that an onedrive direct link changes periodically. In my tests this dont happened. So, anyone knows if this is true? And if this is true is there a way to avoid this? Thanks for the help!

Most of the replies are correct but again you have manually do the modification and that may tends to human error. I read all the replies and made a tool for it. Just paste the link and the SharePoint file will be downloaded.
