As previously announced, Windows 8 ended support on January 12, 2016, and support for Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows Server 2012/R2 ended on January 14, 2020. As we continue to innovate on Microsoft 365 Apps, we would like to remind our customers that new app features may create stability and performance issues when running on older or unsupported operating systems.
In order to avoid functionality and stability issues while continuing to receive updates to Microsoft 365 Apps, we recommend that Windows 8 users upgrade to Windows 10 (or Windows 8.1 as a last resort), and that Windows Server 2012/R2 users shift to a Windows Virtual Desktop solution or upgrade to Windows Server 2019.
For more information and guidance, please see Windows 8 end of support and Office. Always up-to-date information on current system requirements can be found on the Office Resources page, with related timelines available in the Office configuration support matrix.
