Trouble with Office 365 (Outlook/MS Exchange Email) and Microsoft Account using same email?

Hello, I have a problem with a recently migrated email being hosted via Rackspace MS Exchange and Outlook 2016 giving some temporary mailbox prompt on app open and Rackspace is saying the email I am using for my master live account needs to be different than the email used in Outlook with MS exchange. This has been a real nightmare for me and I am wondering what people in the Microsoft community have to say about this and/or if anyone has any familiarity with this and/or if anyone has any other solutions.
