Saving Office documents

This is a plea to Microsoft. Why has the save option for Office / OneDrive documents become so difficult?

If I have a document that I want to edit but keep the original I have to remember to "SAVE AS A COPY" before I start editing. At best this is inconvenient, at worst, if I forget, the earlier version is lost.

In the "old" versions of Office you could do the edit and (if you liked it) use "SAVE AS" to save the document under a new name thus keeping both versions with no (or much reduced) risk of accidentally overwriting the original.

This "improvement" seems a very backward step and is far from an improvement.
