Renew domain for outlook alias?

Copper Contributor

I started a new company and am still using the old email as an alias as I transition to the new organization. The old company domain is about to expire. Can I still use the old company email as an alias if I do not renew the now-closed company domain?

Hello @gbailey75,

Once the domain expires it would be of no use even if you have the aliases added, you will not be able to receive any new emails since the DNS provider from where the old domain was purchased would delete all the records related to your domain, thus stopping any new emails coming in. If you are transitioning to a new domain you can rather use the free domain provided with Microsoft tenant tenantname.onmicrosoft.com. Then later when you get a new domain you can change your email address to that one.

@harveer singh -- Thanks for the reply, and I should have thought of that. Trying to do too much at once.
