On Premise Exchange to Office 365 SMTP ReDirect??

Hi all,

I've recently migrated the company's infrastructure from on-premise exchange to Office 365.

I have not yet decommissioned our on-premise exchange cluster, as it still contains all of our user mailboxes i.e. the same mailboxes have replicated into Office 365 through Azure sync.

The reason for keeping the on-premise machine going is because we have 50 shared mailboxes configured in Office 365, and the only way that we can allow SMTP to work between user mailboxes and shared mailboxes is through our on-premise exchange cluster.

Is there a way that I can decommission my exchange cluster and setup some kind of SMTP re-direct to go through Office 365?

I'm quite stuck - so any help would be welcome!

Thanks very much!

  • Please explain what you have accomplished a little further! Have you set up a hybrid? The sync only synchronize the accounts not the mailboxes themselves! If you should use hybrid and keep one exchange server or just migrate the mailboxes and decommission the exchange infrastructure can be discussed! How you handle dns is depending on current setup
