How to add a group to Supervision

Copper Contributor

Hello all,

When trying to add an Office365 group to supervise via Supervision in Data Governance, I get the error message:

"Only mailboxes are supported. The recipient "everyone@contoso.com" is of the type RemoteGroupMailbox."

However, per this article adding Office365 groups is a supported feature: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/configure-supervision-policies-for-your-organization-d14ae7...

Adding and maintaining this for a long list of ever-changing users will be problematic. How can I add a group of users instead?

An office 365 group is technically a mailbox not a distribution group. You need to create an dist group or mail enable a security group to use for these.

Solution

Nowhere in the documentation it's mentioned that "Office 365 Groups" are supported as reviewers, that's only valid for Distribution groups, Dynamic DGs and mail-enabled Security groups. For any of these types, the membership list will be expanded and any mailboxes found will be added to the reviewer list. Which in turn explains the message you are seeing about only mailboxes being supported.
