Font with Contextual Alternatives in Word

Copper Contributor

Hi all,
I've made a font with the "calt" feature.
It works fine in every app (indesign, pages, ...) on mac and PC except for Microsoft Word. I've already clicked the Contextual Alternatives button but the font still doesn't show as it should. do you guys have any idea's how to fix it?
attached are two print-screens. 1 from indesign (wich is the good one) and one from Word (look at "bij" for example)
It's a font to learn kids how to write and teachers (word-users) should be able to make their own examples with the font in Word.
Thanks in advance

Hi,

Have you considered installing the font on the local machines? See articles below

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Office-365/Import-own-company-font-in-Office-365-portal/m-p/3...

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Download-and-install-custom-fonts-to-use-with-Office-0EE09E...

Let me know how you get on and if this resolves the issue. To note, it has to be installed on all machines which use the font in order to be able to work.

Hi Chris,

I'm working on a mac (but i have the same problem on pc). I've installed the font in FontBook. The example text in FontBook looks good, just as it should be. we're using a word356 standalone (no web-word) the font is installed on all macs and pc's we've tested. it feels like word isn't processing the contextual alternatives right. But if i needed 1 program to process it right it should be this one. But for now it's only one that gives issues with the font.

As an attachement i've included a printscreen of my fontbook with the example text loaded and the wordfile with the same text.

Yes, I can see the difference and the issues you are experiencing in Word.

There are a few things I would ask before raising this to Microsoft Support

1.) Have you done a removal and reinstall of the font?
2.) Does the issue occur on multiple machines or just your own?
3.) What version of Word are you using?
4.) Do you have the ability to test in Word Online (through your Office 365 subscription) since you have installed the font on the machines?

It seems you have done everything correct including enabling contextual alternatives in Word itself.

Hi Chris

1.) yes

2.) multiple machines PC and MAC

3.) Microsoft Word for mac version 16.21 (190115) and Microsoft Word for PC Version1812

4.) I'm not able to switch the Contexual alternates on in Word Online. (I don't have the option to select it or i can't seem t o find it)

Hi @bartbossuyt

Thanks. So its happening across multiple machines even with a reinstall. Final thing. You should be able to see the font in Word Online as you have installed it in the machines using it. Does it look, in Word Online, like it does in the locally installed version of Word.

If it does, I would recommend raising it to support so the Team can look at the font and try to replicate it there. May very well be a bug.

Hi chris, sorry for the newbie question but how do i raise it to support,

Hi @bartbossuyt

There are a few ways. If you are using Office 365 and Word is a part of your subscription I would raise it through your Office 365 Admin Portal (via https://login.microsoftonline.com)

You could go through https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus

You may also close and raise another post through the Microsoft Word community here on the Tech Community who are likely to have specialist users of Word on that forum and have seen this scenario previously.
