OneDrive Personal only offers 30-day retention for version history. Is there a way to buy an add-on to expand that (as Dropbox does)? Does the Business version offer a longer version history?

Hi @multiforme, with OneDrive for Business, by default 500 versions are kept, from here:
"If you are an Office 365 customer, versioning is now turned on by default when you create new OneDrive for Business libraries, and it will automatically save the last 500 versions of a document. This will help you prevent losing important documents or data."
An upgrade to Office 365 Business, should provide you with those benefits and you'd get the desktop Office apps, otherwise Office 365 Business Essentials.
