Does a shared mailbox need at least one member?

Brass Contributor

I remember reading something a few month's ago (forget where) the mentioned any 365 shared mailboxes that don't have at least one member will be removed. Is that true?

Yes, you will need to add members to the shared mail box -

"Members are the people who will be able to view the incoming mail to this shared mailbox, and the outgoing replies."

Please refer to the following article -

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/admin/email/create-a-shared-mailbox?view=o365-worldwide

@Paras Dodhia I understand how to use them but sometimes there are scenario's in where a user leaves the company and we want to convert his mailbox to a shared mailbox but the staff cannot decide who should be a member of that mailbox. So my question is, if we have a shared mailbox with zero members will it be deleted after a certain time period if there are no members?
