Disabling Azure AD Connect

Copper Contributor

We're interested in disabling and removing Azure AD Connect from our internal active directory server since we've been keeping our legacy on-premise Exchange environment running. I know there's a long debate about whether on prem Exchange servers are required to modify certain exchange attributes when using AD Connect, but I've kept them running and need to retire them at this point to recoup the server resources.

What happens to all the user, shared mailbox, distribution lists, etc in Office 365 once AD Connect is removed? I just want to make sure there's no interruption or change in email addresses that I haven't accounted for.

Stop the sync and decommission the adconnect!

Objects previously synced will be cloud only!

@adam deltinger Thanks! Does it matter if there's a mix of cloud only and AD integrated objects? We've been creating new distribution lists cloud only with an eye on converting everything to cloud eventually.

Thanks.

No, it doesn’t matter! Cloud only objects remain the same
