Changing Retention Periods

Good Morning,

We currently using Retention Policies and Tags.  Management has decided that we need to "extended" the Retention Period on a couple of folders from 90 days to 180 days.

My question is when we make the change, will the retention period on existing emails stay the set 90 days or will they be changed to 180 days?  I'm been looking but couldn't find any articles about this.

When the Managed Folder Assistant (MFA) processes mailboxes, it will evaluate the tag applied to folders and readjust the retention period as per the new policy.
