Can't remove Office 365 Enterprise E3 licenses

Copper Contributor

My organization currently has 47 Office 365 Enterprise E3 licenses and only 42 of them are in use. I would like remove unused licenses but can't do it for some reason.

https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/licenses shows me that we have 47 valid licenses and 42 of them are assigned. If I go to Active users and count how many licenses are enabled I get also 42.

When I go to https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/subscriptions and click Add/Remove licenses and try to lower license count it just keeps telling me that I can't remove any licenses because all of them are in use.

Any ideas how to solve the issue? In older admin panel lowering license count used to work just fine.

Should be able to change the admin center off the preview and try there, if not, I would recommend reaching out via Support request.

@Chris Webb Thanks man. Switched to old view, tried to remove those 5 licenses and boom it worked like a charm.

Hopefully they fix the issue before the old view is retired.

Yeah I find myself switching back when dealing with licensing often. Glad it worked!
