Hi Calendar Community,

I wanted to let you know that we recently fixed a bug related to FullAccess & sharing a calendar.

What changed?

If a user has been granted FullAccess only, without SendAs or SendOnBehalfOf permissions, they will not longer be able to share the calendar anymore from modern clients*. While this technically was allowed in the past, it was a loophole that broke sharing experience - permissions would be set but no sharing email was sent.

FullAccess users that have either SendAs or SendOnBehalfOf permissions will still be to share a calendar. So if you grant the user SendAs or SendOnBehalfOf, they will have the Share UI again.

Why did we make this change?

Sharing a calendar is considered a “save & send” action just like creating a meeting invite. When you create a meeting, it saves to calendar & sends invite. Similarly, when you share a calendar, it saves the permission & sends an invite.

Thanks,

Julia

*Modern clients at time of writing this are Outlook on the web, iOS, and Android. However, only the web client supports Full Access logins, so this note applies only to the web right now. Outlook on Windows & Mac will be updated soon with the simplified permissions UI, and at that time, they will reflect these same changes.

Hi Calendar Community,

We received a lot of feedback from many of you that you do want Full Access users to be able to share a calendar even if they don't have SendOnBehalfOf or SendAs permissions.

As a result of your feedback, we have re-enabled ability for all FullAccess users to share a calendar, regardless of SendOnBehalfOf or SendAs permissions. The changes are fully released worldwide, so you should already see the changes.

With this update, a FullAccess user in Outlook on the web will again see the option to share, and when they add or change permissions, the associated sharing invitation e-mail will be sent. The FullAccess user can also remove permissions, but no email will be sent.

As always, thank you for your feedback -- we are listening! :)
