NCE Subscription Upgrades - old subscription still available?

Brass Contributor

Hello

After upgrading an NCE subscription using the upgrade tool in the partner portal, apparently something did not go quite right, and I believe some manual work was involved.

There are still a few users assigned to the older subscription, and it still appears to be available to assign to users. How long does this state last before the subscription is deleted?

(I think they added a few new users to the upgraded product, so they ended up having the same number of licenses as the older version with all licenses assigned to users, and a few existing users are still assigned to and using the older version.)

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Thank you for your post. If they did a partial upgrade, the original subscription would stay available but without the upgrade. If there are licenses that shouldn't be there after the upgrade, a support ticket will need to be submitted in order to get rid of the licenses that should not be there.

It looks like we will need to submit a support ticket as it wasn't a partial upgrade. The same number of licenses of both the old and upgrade versions are showing up.
Thank you.

Hi @214820

I was out of the office last week and others were providing back up.

Since our Licensing Concierge team does not provide tech support, my response would have been that as a Partner, you should carefully log into Partner Center and utilize resources such as the following MS Learn Doc - Migrate subscriptions to new commerce - Partner Center | Microsoft Learn

as well as the NCE Handbook .

If you're unable to resolve your issue via the information above, you should submit a support ticket.

Hope this helps!

Thank you.
It was an upgrade of M365 Business Standard to M365 E3. Not a migration into NCE.
I just specified NCE in the title because we hadn't had this problem when we used the upgrade tool for legacy subscriptions and wondering if any other partners had experienced this and could provide some insight.

@214820

Ah, understood. Other partners may provide their experience with this type of upgrade. To get an official answer to "There are still a few users assigned to the older subscription, and it still appears to be available to assign to users. How long does this state last before the subscription is deleted?", you will need to go ahead and submit a support ticket.

In the meantime, the following link may shows the upgrade process - Upgrade or change to a different Microsoft 365 for business plan | Microsoft Learn

Hope this helps!
