Legacy CSP E3 transition to NCE (after migration)

Iron Contributor

Dear Community,

We are an European Indirect Provider in CSP and we would like to answer one of our reseller's queries.

More specifically, the reseller is currently on the Legacy CSP, having an active E3 subscription. Having the Teams new structure changes in mind, the resellers asks if by migrating manually to NCE prior the Microsoft-led migration, he would be able to utilize the existing E3 subscription "with Teams", or he should proceed by purchasing a new E3 subscription "without teams" plus the standalone SKU for Teams?

Could you please help us understand how this transition from Legacy CSP to NCE works in terms of having an active subscription in Legacy? Probably something will have to do with the migration path, right?

Much appreciated in advance,
Nick

Hello @nick_Anag,

Thank you for your patience as I'm catching up on posts submitted when our US offices were closed on 23/11 & 24/11 (due to a national holiday - Thanksgiving).

If I understand your question, per the Partner confidential document titled "Changes to Microsoft 365 & Microsoft Teams licensing in the European Economic Area + Switzerland", existing customers on legacy CSP subscriptions of Office 365 E1/E3/E5, Microsoft 365 E3/E5 (as well as Microsoft 365 F1/F3, and Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Microsoft 365 Business Premium) will be able to migrate their existing with Teams subscriptions to NCE.  After migrating their existing subscription to NCE, they can then add seats, renew, and upgrade using transitions on those subscriptions.

Dear @LicensingConcierge1,

This was the chapter of the announcement that also triggered our attentions. Therefore, regarding this point, we are on the same page.

However, is there any available learn or documentation to share how this transition from Legacy licenses to NCE will work? I am saying so due to the fact that whenever we execute a migration, we usually create a new subscription. To our knowlegde, this is the way the migration works. And this way causes confusion to us mainly around the execution stage.

It would be great if you could help us understand the post-migration actions we have to follow.

Much appreciated in advance.

Nick
