BTTC Promo 2 - D365 Finance additional base users on a monhtly basis

Iron Contributor

Dear Community

another BTTC Promo 2 question: our customer is on this promo and has 55 Finance base users. For seasonal reasons, they would like to increase the base users for 5 users - but only temporarily. Thus, they want to have these users on a monhtly contract.

Question: can we buy additional base user on a monhtly term? Problem: 20 users minimum for this SKU.

Any input greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Daniel

Hi @axperience_gra

"For seasonal reasons, they would like to increase the base users for 5 users - but only temporarily."

Unfortunately, you are not able to purchase a subscription for only (5) users & there are no temporary subscriptions to accommodate your scenario.  I have not found any exceptions to the following:

Per the NCE Handbook -

Per the Product Terms -

BTTC 2 has a 36-month commitment term only, no monthly commit to use for short-term seasonal flexibility.

Honestly, we do not transact D365 Finance SKU's, so I cannot confirm given customer already has 55 licenses with the promo, if you could add just 5 on a separate monthly commitment subscription at full price. You could try this in Partner Center.

@LicensingConcierge1 thanks for your input. I know the basic NCE/Product terms.

But in this case, the customer bought the 20 user threshold. That would mean a customer cannot anymore (with NCE) increase their user's count seasonally (monthly) unless the number varies for 20+ users? Could anybody answer this who comes from the business side? I miss the good old Partner Community Support where we had a real exchange between partners as well. @Nick_Beacroft , thanks for your input, but the question is probably really for D365 Finance partners, since the 20 users min is quite unique there (and I believe, that just falls though everything the NCE-crew implemented (along with many other nice things))

@axperience_gra

In order to best assist, would you mind clarifying what you mean by "unless the number varies for 20+ users" please?

@LicensingConcierge1 of course. There is a limit for D365 Finance (or SCM) base useres of 20 users. Below that, a customer cannot get the D365 instance (product). Since they have already a greater number licensed, I do not understand, why they cannot add 1 subscription (1 base user) on a monthly basis. Does that explain my question properly?

This is because of a technical impossibility in Partner Center.

Therefore, each base subscription of Finance and SCM has a 20 user minimum.
Mixing is not possible in CSP, contrary to EA....

@Marcel_Altena thank you! (missed you here! ;))

It is amazing, how the Microsoft Team just ignores our questions, hoping it will be solved magically.

I am not sure if this is really a technical impossibility but rather a revenue-generator. It's been there for sooo long now and nothing seems to change. It's just a joke where this is going to - basically Microsoft once said with the Subscription model it will all be much clearer (more fair) to buy just what you use/consume - it is quite the contrary now. But this is another topic.

thanks for your reply

@LicensingConcierge1 can you please double check and answer again?

@axperience_gra yes it has been a busy last few months, but I am planning to get more involved in this community.

Have noticed that answers (however good intended) are not always given in such a way that a partner understands it.

Will try to answer them to the best of my abilities from a partner's perspective

@axperience_gra

I think others already provided the answers to your situation, though not the answer you're looking for unfortunately.

BttC2 promo is only available in 3-year term. You can't do a month term with promo price. So that means you'll need to sell with default/full pricing when doing a month term.

Each Base subscription for D365 F&O requires a 20-seat minimum, you can't purchase a new subscription for just 5 seats. You'll need to sell the minimum of 20 seats for a new month term subscription (even though you already reached that threshold in another subscription).

While your situation makes perfect sense to do from a business point of view, unfortunately Microsoft is not able to support this case...

If the customer only needs the 5 seats for a single month, then you it would make most sense to do 20 seats in month term for ~4K customer costs per month.

If the customer expects to utilize these additional 5 seats multiple months within the 3-year term, then it might be more beneficial to purchase it in the existing BttC2 promo subscription. Think the break even point is around 4+ months.

Hi Martjin
Thank you for your input.
I used the search but unfortunately didn't find anything.
We are doing it this way (increasing promo users) since we didn't find another way to solve it. It is just another nice feature of NCE that probably nobody thought about.
thanks for your help though!
