Annual to Triennial - new end date?

Iron Contributor

I have searched quite a bit - surprise suprise, didn‘t find any answer…

Since there is an upcoming price increase, many customers are thinking about locking their prices now for 36 months (in our case, D365 F/SCM).

Can somebody tell me, what happens to an existing annual subscription if we change them to triennial?

Current one: Jan 1 2024 - Dec 31 2024 - I change it on August 25 to triennial.

new end date August 24 2027?

Thanks for your help (there is nothing in the NCE handbook nor on the learn microsoft page about „Manage term duration and billing frequency“)

cheers

Very much interested in this answer!

Indeed, learn documentation says it's possible, but doesn't answer what will happen with the term itself after the change: Manage term duration and billing frequency - Partner Center | Microsoft Learn

If I can give my assumption on the matter: changing an annual subscription (Jan 1 2024 - Dec 31 2024) in August to a triannual term, I would assume it would extend it's running term to Dec 31 2026.

I tried this in the sandbox environment.

Original annual commitment subscription due to renew 20th February 2025.

Changed to triennial commitment on 20th August 2024.
New renew date is 20th August 2027.
In conclusion, it starts a completely new full triennial term from the date of change.
The subscription ID does not change.

Expect there will be pro-rated credits/charges in the billing as a result.

@Nick_Beacroft thank you very much! I thought I remembered it to be like this but wasn’t sure and didn’t find any infos. 🙏🏼 (also didn‘t find the access/tenant for our sandbox 🫣)

That's pretty awesome news! Fully new term and a full 3-year price protection again.

Interested how the pro-rate charges will look like next billing.
Maybe someone „official“ from Microsoft could answer the billing/credit part?

@axperience_gra I have reached out to the team and will let you know what they share back to me.

Dear Jill
any news yet?

@axperience_gra I just pinged the team again. Stand by.

Dear all,
in April 2024 we switched a yearly subscription for Dynamics Sales Enterprise to a triennial subscription and I can confirm that there were pro-rated credits for the yearly subscription and charges for the triennial subscription as Nick described in his post. The new expiry date is exactly 3 years after you have activated the triennial subscription.
Kind regards
Christine

Thanks Christine, very much appreciated 🙏🏼
