New built-in update service for MSIX apps distributed from third-party websites

Copper Contributor

Hello,

Can anybody confirm that the new update service for MSIX apps announced at Ignite this week is for non-Windows 10 apps? By Windows 10 apps, I mean Microsoft Store apps. As I understand, App Installer already provides the ability to distribute Windows 10 apps from third-party websites.

Thanks.

Hi @ruskiru ,

Yes, it is for apps distributed outside the Microsoft Store/hosted in your own locations. The functionality builds upon the existing App Installer functionality.

Hi @Tanaka_Jimha,

Do you have some docs available about how this updates service works?

I don't understand what brings new on top of the current support the AppInstaller had, as detailed here:

Thanks,

Bogdan

Hi @Tanaka_Jimha Thanks for the clarification.

Russell.

@Bogdan Mitrache The feature is in development and no docs are available at this time.  As it nears availability in an insider build we will have some public docs.
