I began using the To Do app just last week. Loved how it pulled all of my flagged emails and Planner tasks into one list. Up until 2 days ago I was able to sort by categories, which flowed over from Outlook. This was a fabulous simple one-click way to visually organize my list by project. That option has now disappeared. Sure I can manually move tasks or add them to custom lists, but I have already done that in Outlook folders, and it would be tedious redundant work. The beauty of the to list was to not have to flip through multiple folders or lists. Please bring back sort by categories in To Do.

@bridgettef I'm having the same issue. I would like to see this back. It is how I sorted my daily priorities.

@bridgettef Next problem is, category can be add and is vissible only on browser version. On mobile apps it not show.

@Duchic Yes you can absolutely add categories. My concern is the functionality to sort by category was removed.

Just seeing this and I figured it out...
In Settings enable the "All" Smart List.
For that list select Group at the top right and select Categories
My "All" list is now Grouped and Sorted by the categories setup in Tasks.
My "My Day" is also grouped by category.
The grouping is persistent when I click away and return.
Good Luck,
Ben

@badair Hi, your solution looked promising, but when I click on the ... in the top right corner on my 'All' list, I don't have a 'Group' option. I only have 'Edit', 'Sort', 'Change Theme', 'Print List' and 'Send a Copy' as list options.

dang...
Here is what i see in my version.
I am not accessing this thru a "..." menu.

@badair We're probably comparing different apps.
On my laptop (Windows 10), To Do in desktop Outlook (not the new version) it's OK:
On my phone (IOS 17.1.1), To Do app (updated today): no option to group
The 'All' list is enabled in both apps as you can see, no issues there.

Sandra

@GigiBee I totally switched to Microsoft web apps for Outlook and ToDo for this reason. Categories work seemless and has even faster sync between Outlook and ToDo. Sadly no categories avalible on iOS yet 😞

@sandraprojectdbe Yes this is the problem. Categories are available only on web app. On desktop, android, ios... is not avaliable for long time. It's frustrating and I don't understand it why Microsoft do this.

I am running the Microsoft ToDo App on several platforms. On my iPhone, iPad and Android Tablets, I can group the Planned-Task Viwed by categories - which is an extremely helpful feature. However, I can not do the same on the Windows App (2.114.7122.0), nor on the Windows online version. Neither can I find a way to update my Windows App. This really blows my mind, and I would really appreciate to know why this is so, and how I can fix it.
