Brass Contributor

I accidentially just deleted one of my Microsoft To-Do tasks. I cannot see the trash bin. Is there any?

Have you tried to look in the Outlook recycle bin?

Found it, thx :)

the FAQ does not exist @Kiran Thalakokkula other than deleted items and recover from server what are the other options?

I can't find how to restore my deleted task either... any suggestions?

@Salvatore Biscari I am having the same problem. I deleted some of the text from a task in Microsoft To Do and can't get it back. I checked my outlook files and it isn't there. Can you recommend anything else?

@ereissman Did you ever find a solution for your issue?  I have the same one :(

I found the deleted Tasks/list if I export all the To Do's from Outlook.com

After copying the missing Tasks/list to Tasks in my POP-connected O365 account in Outlook (desktop app), the restored Tasks/list still doesn’t reappear in MS To Do!!! AGH!

Sorry - I was not on the plattform for a long time. Thank you so much for your detailed help. :-).

Microsoft Support recently replied to me:-
If you deleted some tasks and want to restore them, you could restore the tasks here https://outlook.live.com/mail/deleteditems. If you delete the tasks by deleting the list directly, all the tasks in that list will be permanently deleted and are unable to restore.

It is easy to delete a whole List of Tasks by mistake, so I'm very surprised that the basic function to restore a List and its Tasks is missing.

@LLLO365 Thank you for this! I find this incredibly frustrating as I moved tasks from a temporary list to my permanent one, they moved over so I deleted that temp list and suddenly they were totally gone.. so basically To Do messed up and now I have no idea what important tasks I needed to do ugh

@LLLO365 if you google for unable to recover task from outlook there’s quite a few having the same problem. I did exactly the same as another user described, I was trying to move a task with sub tasks elsewhere and then deleted the copy and couldn’t recover either that or the original, just disappeared completely

This just happened to me. I reorganized my lists and even though I moved the tasks before deleting the old list, I've lost a ton of important info. I was so careful and this still happened - kind of insane that you can't restore it!

@savihara I feel your pain!! It's so annoying isn't it especially when we empty our brain content into these lists & may forget to do something forever

@Sophiedaly3 Oh my good gravy I found them!!  I connected to Microsoft Exchange Online >mailbox address (my email) > 365 from Power BI, and opened the Tasks table.  There they were, under Tasks, and the Folder Path begins with \Deleted Items\

I don't know if I can restore all of the notes within them, but it's better than nothing! :)

@Benedikt Scheerer

Just happened to me! Found the answer here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/delete-and-restore-lists-44a31ee7-cb3d-4906-8bfd-ccebd853...

Copied and pasted just in case they later delete the page:

Restore a list

Since your lists are stored on Exchange Online and are also visible in Outlook Tasks, you can recover accidentally deleted lists in Outlook:

1. Sign in to Outlook on desktop with the same Microsoft account that you use with Microsoft To Do.

2. Navigate to your email folder list, then select Deleted Items.

3. Locate the deleted folder, right-click it, then select Move > Other Folder > Tasks.

Let me know if it worked. Cheers!
