We have been using Teams on company provided cell phones over WiFi and it works great. We are now considering a pilot with some production staff but would rather not provide activated cell phones and would proably like to go with lower cost devices since they will likely get abused and destroyed and these are hourly employees we would not otherwise provide cell phones to.

Does anybody have any experience or recommendations with android based hardware that worked well in building for associates who may not be willing to bring their own devices?

@Marc Rohde there are a few different approaches I've seen taken.

1. Shared devices. Typically these are semi-rugged devices from Honeywell or Zebra, these come with practical options for staff to drop them into bulk charging areas at the end of a shift. Would staff really reliably connect them to a regular charger and take proper care of them? Typically these devices also have a barcode scanner or other hardware for other operations. Take a look at the Honeywell Dolphin CT40 or Zebra TC20.

2. Per-User devices. Typically a consumer phone like a Samsung A30 bought in bulk and issued to staff for them to be personally responsible. The price per handset comes down a long way when buying in bulk, see this case study from dm group

I used to work for a large retailer, we spend a long time looking at this a couple of years ago. We imagined we would find lots of nice low cost android devices that would meet most of our requirements but it simply wasn't the case. Budget phones are hard to configure and maintain, the industry is only set up to make the products consumers want and there are only a small number of companies making anything more industrial.
