Where are files inserted in non group chat stored?

Images pasted into chats with another user (not a "team" chat) aren't in the teams chat folder or shared folders in OneDrive, or in the files associated with the chat. So where are they stored?

This documentation is incorrect:

@matt howell Images inserted into conversations are stored in the Teams Media Service, they are not considered files. There is no library you can browse, they are just associated with the message.

@Steven Collier So the documentation is wrong, and remains so a year and a half later.
"Files that you upload to a one-on-one or group chat are stored in the Microsoft Teams Chat Files in your OneDrive for Business and are shared only with the people in that conversation. These are available in the Files tab at the top of a chat."
