The support documentation for the Teams user activity report says only says "Other activity is the number of other team activities by the user." Presumably anything else that isn't a posted chat/channel message, call, or meeting. I'm curious if anyone knows the specific actions that drive this indicator. My theory includes:

  • Likes
  • Saved Messages
  • Reads/Views

Is there more to it than that?

Initially I would agree with you, things like sharing files, gifs, engaging with bots things like that.

In our reporting, the Teams 'Other activity' is about four times more than the next highest activity (which is 'Channel messages'), so my suspicion is that it may be primarily made up of Views/Reads of those messages.

If that is the case, then it would be really useful to break out that activity as an actual named type.

It's the same for us. I went and found some users that hadn't been active in Teams yet and asked them to do some various actions:

  1. The first I had scroll through the default team in the web browser (view/read) | Check - it counted
  2. The next set, I one like a post, the other save a post (but neither scrolled) | Check - it counted

The only challenge I have now is knowing if that number is inflated with other activities beyond just reading.

Todd,

After my previous reply, it also struck me that the simple event of 'logging on' to Teams might be being captured in the 'Other activity' metric. WDYT? But I'm hoping not, as the default behaviour of having Teams start in the background would then effectively translate the value into the total number of users who have installed the Teams Desktop application...!

Great point @Geoffrey Richardson. Hopefully someone can get us some more clarity on what is actually being tracked and if they plan on breaking out those individual counts.

Did anyone ever get a better insight into what Teams_HasOtherAction actually includes?
