URGENT: MS Teams wish: option to restrict who sees my video

Copper Contributor

Hi all,

this is a must-have feature for education institutions: when children attend on-line schooling, there must be an option to restrict who can see their camera video. Only teacher should see them, not other students. This will prevent abuse and improve participation ratio.

Thank you for your answer. This doesn't really solve the issue we're having. This is a nation-vide issue, that students don't want to turn on their webcams in fear that they'll be recoded by other students and mocked.

Teachers on the other hand request the students to show up on the cameras, in order to verify they're participating in the class, and generally to have better control over how the class is conducted.

The solution is technically simple. There should be a separate mode of a “meeting” in which only the maintainer of the meeting sees the videos of attendees.

Of course this could be later further fine-tuned to allow the teacher to enable visual between two selected students, or creation of a group in which they'll see each other. But in the first stage the restricted video option would help everybody involved in online education forced on us by Covid-19.

There are many things you can configure today for safe learning. The recording part as well. Have a look here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/keeping-students-safe-while-using-teams-for-distance-learn...

As the mentioned roadmap items are in development I can’t say how they will work being released. But for what you’re asking I think you need to add it to Teams UserVoice https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/
