We are looking to transition from tradition SharePoint online to Teams with using the SharePoint back-end.
We created a page in the ShrePoint associated to our team.
Created a Hero app (default page) that links to different folders in the document library.
You can click on the tab, get the Hero page. Click on a tile, get taken to the Folder, browse to a file you want. Click on the file (eg MS word document) then the app store "Open With" window opens up!? .
This is ion the Fat client. On the Browser version, it works fine.
Also testing on the App, running on an Android phone, clicking on the tab, it just spins its wheels doing nothing!....

I have been able to reproduce this. This is what i did:
When i click a link the folder will open
Does not Work. Tells me to look for an app in Store
Does not work. It just opens up a new blank browser window
This works! The file open up in Word Online
It seems to be "by design" and it is different behavior between different browsers and also between using the teams client and web version. Therefore i recommend that instead of clicking the file You should select the file, choose Open and then open in either Office client or Office online. This works in all scenarios that i have tested.

The clicking the file and selecting "Open in Word" works.
I have also contacted Microsoft Supprot via my work account regarding this, and there current update.
".....Tissue is more relate to Microsoft team's app. From the fiddler trace we can see it did called SPO open file API just did not try to call office online functions. We involved Microsoft team's escalation engineer..."
So I doubt it's by design but rather a bug, which I confirmed when speaking to them in person.

Hi @Scott Triffett -
Did you get a resolution to this at all?
I'm having a similar experience when I've added a Site Pages SharePoint library as a tab in Teams, either using the SharePoint tab, or the website tab.
When I try to click on a page from the library, I get the same MS Store message as you did for documents. Unlike your workaround, selecting a page doesn't give me an option for opening elsewhere.
While I can direct users to use SharePoint directly (where it works fine!), we're looking at user adoption for Teams, so ideally want users staying there...
Any and all advice appreciated!! This seems to be the only thread mentioning this (or similar) issue
