Teams not switching to gallery view

I received an email today that an employee was hosting a meeting this morning and he had the gallery view selected but Teams stayed in dynamic mode.  Has anyone else experienced this behavior after the latest update to the desktop version?  He said that he has never had this issue until he enabled the new meeting experience.
