Hello All,

 

Read the previous thread, but couldnt find information to help us with our new Teams Journey.

 

Configuration

1. Skype for Business Online / Hybrid with Skype for Business 2015 hosted setup.

2. On Premises Call Handling with Hybrid

3. Skype Online Numbers for select countries purchased

4. Enterprise E3 + Phone System + Intl / Domestic calling + Audio Conf licenses available.

5. Voice Routing using dial plans and Routing on Premises Skype

 

Issue(s)

A few selected users including self were enabled with Skype Teams

Grant-CsTeamsUpgradePolicy -PolicyName UpgradeToTeams -Identity mike@contoso.com

 

There are two issues to report and solve as of now.

 

1. Interoperability

When users in Skype or Teams try to contact either side, the messages end up as emails instead of direct IM messages.

 

2. Voice Call

All Users enabled for TEAMS cannot call other Teams users nor other SKYPE users, except mine account.


They don't have the call button/ dial pad from the TEAMS console.

 

Difference for my account: I have a full blown Office 365 / Skype online Home account + Skype Online provided DID number.

 

I also tried to enable one of my other colleagues with a direct skype number from Skype Online, but that has not worked yet.

 

I am kind of lost looking at policies or not sure where i should start scratching now to make this working. 

 

Looking for some help to solve this.

Issue 1 and 2:

This sounds like your other users have Islands mode configured as Teams Upgrade mode and have not both clients running.

Interoperability for chat and calls between User A (SfB) and User B (Teams client) is only available in SfBOnly and TeamsOnly modes. Islands mode requires that User A and B have both clients open.

 

The call tab is currently only available for Teams users that have a calling plan or have direct routing configured.

Thank you for the quick response.

 

For Issue1 --> I did look up and users were configured in TEAMSONLY mode. Later it was reverted back to Skype Only

 

For Issue2 --> I did not understand what calling plan you have referred to ? Is it the International/Domestic calling or Domestic calling plan from Microsoft Skype Online ? My understanding was that they needed to have PhoneSystem License only, but for one user the calling plan was indeed assigned though the Voice Routing plans and other configuration was from the Skype Hybrid configuration.

 

Direct Routing is not yet configured and will be done as part of next phase of the project provided the base setup runs correctly and smoothly which currently is not the case :(

For issue 1:  If the User A (SfBOnly) and User B (TeamsOnly) can not send IM or call each other there seems to be indeed an issue with gateway/interop functionality. If this configuration is not 24 hours old it is worth waiting and see if the situation changes.

 

For issue 2: Yes it is the domestic and international calling plan I'm referring to. If a user is TeamsOnly and has a phone system license including a calling plan or direct routing configured the call tab should appear. I don't think it is enough to have a phone system license. The call tab is also only available in the desktop teams client. The web version does not have this functionality yet.

 

Audio and Video peer to calls between your users can also be done via the chat dialogue. There is no need for call tab to test this functionality.

Thanks for the responses.

 

Issue 1. This configuration is already a few weeks old in the process. :)  We have already tried multiple combinations of policies but nothing has helped so far.

 

Issue 2. To do a testing, i have assigned a domestic calling plan to one of my test users. But the strange fact is that many of the users in the pilot group had Calling Plans from Previous Configuration but still didnt work as expected. I will update you after ~ 2 hours to see if that license has made any change in the teams client for him.

There is no need for call tab to test this functionality."  --> unfortunately, that option  does not as you have mentioned. Users within Teams were not able to find any option to do a voice call internally (teams nor Skype)...

Please double check this with your environment. Otherwise check the Teams Admin Center if this functionality is disabled by the teams meeting policy.

While i do agree to what you have said and is shown in the video. That is the very straight forward way of how it should be, but alas is not the case.

 

Just to update you, when I assigned the calling plan license to my colleague he did get the CALL BUTTON on his teams, but there is still some nagging issue with his calling policies as it says " You are not setup to use this feature " when he tries to dial a local number outside the org.

 

I will see how the configuration goes and most likely we will use DR for the configuration in the near future.

 

Any other pointers in the right direction is always welcome.
