I've been using Teams for a few weeks, but today a problem appeared where the entire chat pane (the main part of the window) is completely blank -- no chat history, no chat input box, nothing.

I can still see my sidebar to switch between different people, teams, etc, and at the top of the chat panel I can still switch to share files, notes, etc. But the chat box itself is completely blank, and I can't see chats or comment in them. This is the case for both 1-to-1 chats and team channels.

I'm on a Mac with the latest version. I've already tried deleting and re-downloading the Teams app, with no effect.

UPDATE: I was able to resolve this by completely deleting the following folder from my computer:

/Users/[my username]/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams

Basically that's all the locally cached Teams data and settings. Once I blew that away, I started Teams up, re-logged in, and everything works as expected.

It seems there's a bug in Teams somewhere that allows this local data to get corrupted, rendering the app unusable.

Cheers for sharing the solution Matt. So it would have displayed fine when using a browser and visiting teams.microsoft.com. I'd be interested to hear what local data is cached. I think draft responses are stored in cache and audio/video settings. Probably a file containing the conversations that have been downloaded to the client, to load them more quickly.

Is this the correct solution for everyone? I have a VP who has been using Teams for the past few weeks and just logged in to a completely blank screen with no content or discussions. Not sure if he's on a Mac, but most likely he's on a PC. Please advise on how to help him. I don't want to steer him to the online version as I have used the online version and don't find it as valuable than the desktop app.

@Matt Rogers

I had the same issue.  I just exited from Teams and opened it up again and Teams fixed the issue.
