Anyway we can have Meeting and Chat screen displays separately or in different windows? Currently during meeting and chat displays in the same screen so during meeting we can see either of them in FULL screen mode.

Something I do occasionally, is that I have a desktop client in the meeting and Chrome web Teams open in the same tenant. That way I can multi-task (bad, I know ;) ) to Teams while attending a meeting. But then I have a separate Team/chat window that is "popped out" of Teams.

@Chris Webb - that works for chats with the current meeting group. But one of my bigger issues is to have a side chat with someone else while the meeting is occurring. Since Teams has become our defacto messaging system, i might be in a meeting with one group while someone else informs me of a problem. If i even see the notification, the minute i flip to that mode the meeting becomes this tiny one-inch screen that is completely unreadable.

We hope that user voice is still in the works then! Go vote if you haven't already :)

No this doesn't help, actually read the threads you post please :)
@Christopher Hoard there has been no communication by microsoft over on that thread.

@ultrafab yes there has, at the top where they say they are 'Working on It' which is entirely accurate.
They let us know through the message centre when they have a plan to roll it out. In all these cases its not developed to a date, its developed to a quality standard.

finding very frustrating the lack of multiple windows in teams when trying to use as a portal for IM, Meetings and share document workspace, the inability to either have multiple open windows or tabs is quite inefficient as it drives a very single threaded usage, although I can have multiple browser windows open..

Fully agree with @hiteshv!!! I wish we can have 'tear out' chat windows and have as many as we have chats. Similar to how the old Skype use to be. Now unfortunately that's not possible in Skype either. I work with a team around the world and we live in Chat and I hate having to keep bouncing back into Chat in teams then go back to another and another... love to just put them on my second monitor and have them in small windows.
Also bring that back to Skype (about 3 vers. ago) miss that too!

@Balu N Ilag they must be slowly rolling this out. I just did an update check and shut-down and reopened and still at last update 7/1/19. No pop-out yet. Thanks for the info! Can't wait for full roll-out.

@Balu N Ilag can't wait for full roll-out. Would love to see all functions of Teams be able to be tear-out windows. It would really make it an amazing tool.

@Chris Webb But you can have only big video and small chat in that same communication at once. As soon as you want to enter different chat, video will shrink into upper-left corner and at that time, you won't be able to read anything at all. At the moment, even being able to pop video call into separated window would be great change. But being able to have every single communication (chat or call) in different window would be the best. As for "MS looking into it", they are looking into it for more than year already...

@Chris Webb it would be awesome if all functions of Teams could be in windows, allowing for ease to bounce from a Chat to Files, to a Channel. I find it cumbersome to be in a Chat, then I have to go find a file, copy the link then go back into the Chat. It's more so when replying or creating a Channel post and linking files within it. Having all functions as windows would make it really nice. OR, to create a workspace, or what MS seems to call Dashboards (think like what Adobe does in all their apps) that has specific functions of Teams. To be able to have multiple Chats, have Channels easy to bounce around and/or even move around in the workspace based on priority for that day.
As CMO and CTO I find myself having to mouse around way too much in Teams.

Looking forward to it. Also if you have any say/influence there at the MS Teams group. Really need to figure a way for multiple logins. I have 2 people, and myself, that have to work with two different clients/companies that have separate logins, based on email account. It's a pain to log out, log back in. Heck even Google has a quick way to switch between accounts for their full system. I'd think that Teams could have an 'Account manager' which could allow for quickly switching between Teams accounts. Specially on mobile, and when using voice (phone numbers) it would be great to have the ability to have multiple logins and ability to switch between Teams, while allowing voice to work with both. But then maybe I'm dreaming.

@Chris Webb Teams is way too cluttered to be useful. It seems that MS has left behind a whole user community that was perfectly happy with the functionality in Skype. I have yet to hear anyone in my organization of our customer organizations that have not been part of the IT team driving Teams implementation that has expressed they like it.
Chief complaints ...
1. When I receive a direct message but don't acknowledge it when it pops up, I have to hunt to find the message.
2. when I read a message, even after using "mark as read", the message still shows unread and the alert is still on my task bar.
3. Each tab should be able to be popped out on its own.
It is great that you want to support the mobile community, but anyone that believes that the mobile community outweighs the traditional computer community is not doing their research. There are far more people that use a desktop/laptop on a regular basis than there are folks using mobile phones. I use both actively but have no desire at all to put Teams on my phone.
I hope Scott rethinks Microsoft's approach and makes an application that addresses the needs/desires of both communities.

@ultrafab I'm coming from the Mac client - where Calls is in the same left-rail that it is in Teams.
How to call someone:
a) Click the Calls button (and dial or search)
b) Hover over someone you've chatted with and click the Call popup
This interaction seems pretty similar to me (albeit that Teams also has other things to do like Teams/Channel conversations). What's your perspective on where the UI is confusing?

Currently they are working on making this possible but for the time being you can do what I have been doing.
Log in with the client for your meeting and while in your meeting open incognito in chrome and sign in again to portal.office.com and then open teams again. Allowing you to have chats opens while having teams meeting going on in a different screen.

@PrintUSMC Thanks for the suggestion workaround for now. Yes it worked with Edge as well.
10-30-2019 09:47 AM
@Vesa Nopanen This is the best, perfect option at the moment I'm writing this. I'm actually doing it as I write this.
I have my lap and a monitor to share the teams meeting.
The monitor is the secondary screen with Teams APP showing the meeting (with a presentation).
My lap is the primary, so any notifications appear at my lap, not the monitor. And I can chat with anyone using the BROWSER teams.
Great workaround while Microsoft fixes this issue, it is very unnatural to NOT have the ability to chat while being on a meeting. Totally unrealistic.

Lots of requests for this and lots of work arounds too. I remember a time when Skype use to allow you to tear off a Chat window into its own window, then in some update that feature was gone.
I guess I ask Microsoft... when you bought Skype you killed a very nice function, specially when we users are in chats with many people in a team, bouncing between chats (in a tiny window) was easy and necessary many times. So, why did you kill it in an update of Skype?
So that said, why can't you program the ability to have each function in Teams as a window. You are Windows by the way. I'd think that wouldn't be too difficult.
Also, when are we going to be able to have switchable Teams logins. I'm involved with 3 companies, as a consultant, and I have to switch between the 3 different company Teams logins. Sure would be nice to have a pull-down at my login/profile icon to switch between accounts. Heck, Twitter and Instagram can do it.

@hiteshv I think having multiple windows for multiple tasks goes hand in hand with the whole idea of "Windows". It's inconvenient to be using this collaboration platform to edit one document (i.e. Word file) and then if you want to answer to a separate chat, you will lose your place in said document. I vote this is must if this product is to replace other IM solutions.

Really hope they figure this one out sooner rather than later. You still have to open docs on desktop if you need to have multiple open at one time (which I have to everyday) and running a teams meeting but then trying to open a chat in another window (particularly while screen sharing) doesn't work at all so have revert to other forms of communcation is really tricky. It's very inefficient. I'm sure they didn't but it feels like there wasn't quite enough real user testing before going live with their core audience of business users on this one. @hiteshv

Hi, I have been using Teams for the last week. When I used to connect to meetings I was able to see all of the people in the meeting in a split screen,. The most I saw was 3 where one person was on half the screen and the other two one quarter. . Today I only saw the person who was talking. Any ideas why this would change when I have not changed any settings on my laptop?
04-03-2020 03:46 AM
Any idea how the multi screen window for meetings can be activated?
It worked for me for the past three days, but todays meeting only showed a full screen of the person talking.

Does anyone remember old Skype (before MS bought it) where you use to be able to have chat windows separated from the App. There was no limit. There were times then I'd have 8 chat windows open and bounce between them all, also be able to have them join as a group chat.
That technology was around... where did it go?
I remember the day, year or two later, when doing an update of Skype (after MS bought it) that the ability to drag a chat to a window went away. So some domehead at MS decided to kill what made Skype and Trillian great tools for chatting with a bunch of people at work or personal life. Sounds a bit like a control factor to me.

@Chris Webb that makes sense on a developer side. Then as a User I say; allow me an option setting on the desktop version to pull windows out for chats. Just like how old Skype did. That function was there and it was an option back then.
As CMO/CTO of a start-up, about to launch, we too are dealing with the mobile and desktop issue. But, we also look at how users use our apps for both and have allowed for settings for the user to customize the way their app (view) works for them. It does make development a bit more complex, but the end user is the real key. They are the customer. I literally had that conversation two days ago with my team.
