I have convinced the whole office to move over to Teams and we have two issues (I think they're bugs):

 

First issue:
A colleague tried to copy an image from a Teams chat and paste it to an external program like Outlook, and the "Paste" function just pastes a blank image.

 

Second issue:
I presume this is normal: Teams lists all contacts as a "Skype for Business contact (with the Skype logo)" and a second contact (the Teams contact). A colleague right-clicked a Teams contact, and selected "add to contacts", but then it added the "Skype for Business" contact

And you can't chat to the Skype for Business contact, because then it says "This user is unavailable or offline. We've sent an email instead."

And I tried to search for a contact now, but it only brought up his Skype for Business account, so I couldn't contact him. I had to ask him to search for me and send me a message first, and then added him to my contacts.

In my understanding and experience, here's my response to your questions:

Yes I have observed this as well which I assume happens for copyright reasons. Copy Image in teams works well within teams. You'll also find that blank images occur when you try to copy and paste images into Teams from say, Google.

 

If you want to grab the image and put into apps like Outlook, I would suggest finding the original image in the Files tab and then using that file in Outlook, etc.

 

Second issue:
I presume this is normal: Teams lists all contacts as a "Skype for Business contact (with the Skype logo)" and a second contact (the Teams contact). A colleague right-clicked a Teams contact, and selected "add to contacts", but then it added the "Skype for Business" contact.

 

Yes this would be normal behavior in my experience. Your Skype for Business would be linked to your Exchange server which houses your address book. Adding a contact would also add it to Skype.

After a bit more clarification I will mark it as a solution.
First issue:
Currently we use the screengrab (Shift+Win+S) as a bypass, so an attempt to prevent copyright issues is futile. Besides, many users would like productivity and efficiency to increase through use of Teams, and not have to go browse the files tab. Perhaps I will start a thread on Uservoice for this.

Second issue:
Sorry, perhaps I didn't explain the issue properly. Please allow me to elaborate, while referring to accompanying images:
Step 1 Search:
Using the search bar I looked for Anton Surname, and only his Skype for Business contact pops up. I add it to favourites. 

Step 2 Skype for Business:
Then I message his Skype for Business contact "Test", to which I get the response in image "Step 2 Skype for Business"

Step 3 Anton Message Me
I then have to go to him personally and ask him to message me first (he is able to find my Teams account from his side), and then once he has messaged me I can view/find/message his Teams account. View image "Step 3 Anton Message Me" attached.

The first issue is annoying but sounds like you have a fast workaround which is great to hear!

 

The second query is out of my technical experience but from the look of the problem, you have correctly found Anton's teams contact record but when you send off the instant message from the search bar, it redirects the message to a Skype chat in Teams, which is where it's falling over.

 

When Anton messages you, he's not having the same problem as the message is being correctly sent to you via Teams Chat (not Skype) as evident in the Step 3 image.

 

I'm going to phone a friend for this one.

 

@Deleted, any experience with this issue? I don't have this problem when I instant message people.

 

If the problem persists and we don't find a solution here, I would suggest logging a ticket with Microsoft.

 

Chances are it is a configuration issue in your portal that needs to be fixed up but I am not technical enough to walk you though the process.

@Connor Stephen Fitzgerald, out of curiousity, have you tried searching for Anton and sending him a message using the Chat tab?

 

I suspect the instant messaging (meant to be like Skype) is actually redirecting the message to Skype whereas if you use the Chat tab, it will work (not terrific I know).

In response to your message I tried clicking on the Chat tab, then also using the "/chat" command to search Sekela, which only brings up his Skype for Business contact, as shown.

Issue 1 is a known issue. Pretty sure they are working on it.

Issue 2 almost seems like a few of those users don’t have teams license on? Or logged into teams yet?

Also another big one here. If your org has never used Skype and you guys just plan on teams have you gone on and set your teams upgrade policy? Switching this over to teams only will most likely fix a lot of this. Previously to do any kind of chat between the two and route calls you had to use a powershell cmdlet set-csteamsinteroppolicy (don’t quote me on that) but it’s now deprecated for set-csteamsuogradepolicy. This can be set to teams only but if your admin center is up to date you can set to teams only there under teams upgrade.

Setting this should basically **bleep** down Skype for business and start routing everything to teams only.

Nope, all have licences and all were logged on at time of issue. I had to get those users to message me first, although all of us were online. Other users in our cluster had the same issue with different users.

 

Regarding the Teams upgrade policy: our cluster consists of about 30 users in a holding company of over 10,000. They run our admin privileges. Will they be able to set it just for our cluster? I can forward the information you've sent through to them, and see if they can fix it - I will get back to you on that.

Depends if your 30 is it’s own tenant. If you click new chat and search for people do all the 10000 people show up or just the 30? If it’s just 30 then your probabaly good to teams upgrade for all. However if not. Your admins can individually set each of you to Teams only on a per user basis.

Also when you do new chats are you clicking the new chat button? Using the command bar to type in names to search / chat with uses chat histories which seems to have auto populated for you as recommended contacts ahead of time so just make sure you’ve done that instead of command bar.

I can say for certain that all 10,000 are on the same tenant - we will move over to our own tenant next year.

 

Ah, the search bar seems to be auto-populating as you said (while ignoring the Teams contact). Using the "New Chat" icon seemed to of worked (and surprisingly doesn't even show the Skype for Business contact). It seems to recognise that you need the Teams contact when using the "New Chat" icon, but perhaps they should do the same with using the "/chat" command.

i have a similar issue

 

after the user initially tried to chat with another internal user I can not delete the chat thread.  So I cant initiate a teams chat (defaults to the SfB contact)

 

did you find a work around for this?

I'm not quite following. 

 

Was the user who sent the message using Teams or Skype? And was the user who was meant to receive the message using Teams or Skype?

 

Have you tried using the Teams Chat tab and create a group conversation from there?

so currently i am in island mode.  I would like teams user to chat with teams and SfB to chat with SfB.

 

I have teams opened for both users and I am just trying to chat with within teams. But whenever i chat from teams it goes to the SfB account.

First off, make sure you are using the new chat button in the top left of the search box and not using the search box to start a new chat.

Can you not select ... next to that chat and hide it? Then usea the chat button to start teams chat?

Also, In the Teams admin center, under Teams settings tab I recommend turning off the option to allow Teams users to chat with Skype for Business users.

so i figured out from this thread to use the chat button and not the search box

 

if i try the hide and use the chat button the chat still gets directed to SfB.  The chat thread comes back contains the items that were there when i hid it

 

I cant find that setting for teams

 

also to add this is just for internal communication

The setting used to be in the general section on the old teams settings page on the admin center. Some folks have it now in the new admin center so you can go look there. You can also manually turn it off in your settings in the client if you have the setting enabled on the admin side as well.
