Team Meeting Chat Log Availability after meeting is completed

Greetings All,

 

I had a question come up in a session where I was demonstrating meetings in a Teams channel and I wasn't sure the proper answer. The particular part I was showing was the post meeting wrap up and how all the chat logs were retained to easily be viewed later. The question came up of how long that data is available. I believe in Skype for Business that is a configurable length of time at which point that data is cleaned up and made no longer available to the end users (excluding legal hold type things). Is there a similar time frame to return to these chats or are they retained in the team permanently like the other chats in the Team?

From a client perspective they will show in the Team indefinitely unless you have as Tony says a Retention policy set to remove messages after a certain timeframe. However if the meeting was setup by an individual and not in a channel, those "Chats" that you see after a meeting will stay visible for 30 days unless hidden manually. However you can still find the content in search and pull it back up later. These chats could also be removed by policy over time as well.

I was having a discussion with our Desktop Support Team and was told that Microsoft Teams was not being allowed to be used because it does not have the same Auditing capabilities as Skype for Business.  Is this true?  If not, how can we truly control both Team and Personal Chat to be saved like it is with Skype for Business?

Seriously, Teams has the same or better capabilities as Skype for Business Online (both capture records in Exchange Online). It's better because users can't see the transcripts, so they can't remove any.

Say: there is a meeting chat, attendees are people from different tennants. Why is it that when the meeting ends, some people leave the chatgroup without doing this on purpose. What I would like in some cases is that all attendees stay in the chatgroup once the meeting finishes. What happens when we get the message they left the chatgroup? Is it retention policy of the company (once meetings ends, leave chatgroup) or something else? Any idea?
