Hi there
is it possible to change the sort order of chat, so that the newest posts are displayed on top - and not as now downwards.

+1 from me
I like Teams' functionality but the reverse feed direction is a pain
The Channel options should include a 'Show Newest First' toggle

Teams + Sort from top == Yammer
Chat apps don't scroll that way, imagine a Skype conversation scrolling down, or iMessage, WhatsApp etc.

I see what you mean, but we're talking about threads, not individual replies
Using your first example, Skype for Business:
- when you look at an individual IM thread, yes, the latest comment is at the bottom
- BUT when you look at your list of all IM's, the most recent ones are at the top
It's just intuitive to have it that way, and Teams has (in my opinion) got the grouped conversations sorted the wrong way
I'd just like the ability to change it ... a 'Display Order' toggle added to the Options menu, thanks :)

I am new to team and I must request the ability to set the preference. I understand the debate over Yammer VS Skype. But why not let the user choose the sort order. This is a no-brainer just like in a Word document you pick the font and color.... beauty and what makes sense is also in the eye of who uses it. That way everyone is right and happy.

@Marc Gagnon you can add and vote for Teams features on UserVoice at https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public
Teams is focused on fast paced conversations with real-time chat. I really can't imagine a good UI for real-time that scolls down from the top, and I uggest you are thinking of it more like a forum for more asynchromus posting, which is really what Yammer is best at.

So really?? The conversation won't show from Latest to oldest?? No control on Sort Order? Any possibility of this get changed in future?

It does show latest to oldest, going up the screen from the box where you type new messages. Just like Slack, WhatsApp, iMessage etc.

This chat that we are working in has the option to sort by newest to oldest.
Why wouldn't you allow Teams to be just like this?

Hi,
Why hasn't this been implemented yet? This is a basic feature in almost any applications. Please fix this asap.
Teams will be a fantastic tool for many things when this is implemented. We have a lot of noise from our users and trouble getting them to use teams at all because of this missing feature.

Well, there aren't very many votes for it on uservoice, so I guess not very many people want this ability.
It is just the way chat apps have all decided to work, scrolling up the screen away from the compose box at the bottom. That way while you are writing a message you can see new messages as they appear. This is how iMessage works, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and others. You don't get a choice in those.

No thanks. You read from the top and downwards. Users are used to reading chat from the top to the bottom like irc, slack, whatsapp, telegram etc etc.

Steven,
Can we at least introduce a functionality to snap to the most current message? The IM apps you referenced may scroll in the same direction as Teams, but they at least open on the most recent message. Teams does not, which doesn't make sense. I've never used an app that showed you the oldest message on the landing screen and required you to scroll to the newest messages. I did vote for it on uservoice, though I do feel that lack of voices on this subject may not indicate anything as in both the organizations I've worked for most people just gave up on 365 apps that had odd functionalities rather than trouble with communicating back to Microsoft. In the case of Teams, we just never used the chat channel.

My companies user satisfaction with 365 is really bad. I would not expect my single vote accurately represents the 14,000 users that I represent as the sponsor of Office 365. Every time I'm sent off to the black hole that is my single vote I wonder why I bother. The web-centric views that the Microsoft Development group continue to espouse arent what my users want, they are still focused on a PC environment moving towards Hybrid. Remember PC means doing it "my" way, not the one way someone told them to do it. Green screens put the latest stuff at the bottom also.
And again I will say this forum is very similar to what I would use teams chat for, is set up with new messages AT THE TOP.

@Brendan Foster it does! When I visit a channel I see the most recent message first.
